Vehicle Detail

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE AN OFFER OR "BUY IT NOW" IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO BUY THIS VEHICLE!! PLEASE ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU MAKE AN OFFER!!! Thank you!!! 1982 Volkswagen Vanagon GL-Westfalia with a 1.8L GTI motor (MK1) Congratulations you are bidding on a fantastic condition VW Westfalia with an upgraded GTI motor. This vehicle has 164900 miles and is a 4-speed manual. The original air-cooled, diesel motor was removed and replaced with a refurbished GTI 1.8L motor (MK1) by the previous owner (motor had 12000 miles on it when it was installed; motor has approximately 45-50k on it now). The GTI motor is a water-cooled, 1.8L 4-cylinder with approx. 108hp. I estimate the fuel economy to be about 15 -20MPG depending on driving conditions. This Westy drives great and is able to drive at highway speeds with no effort at all. The upgraded motor has made this vehicle much safer and exponentially more reliable! This Vanagon is the full Westfalia camper van with all of the amenities. This includes: dual burner stove, sink, water tank, 3-way fridge, dining tables (both FRONT and REAR), swivel captain’s chairs, storage cabinets, z-bed, and pop-top bed. All appliances work as expected and are in good working order. In addition, this Westy has the full complement of privacy curtains as well as the front window curtain and the rear mosquito screen (see pictures). All cabinet latches work correctly. The interior is in great condition and has been thoroughly detailed and cleaned prior to listing for auction. The front seats are in great condition and show very minimal signs of wear. The dash is in great condition and has no defects or cracks. All gauges, switches and latches work as expected and the heat/vent system works correctly too. This vehicle does NOT have A/C. One thing to note, the speedometer needle bounces when in operation but not excessively. It still reads correctly but I want the new buyer to be aware of it. The speedometer cable has been recently replaced but it did not fix the problem; I have been told it is probably the gauge but since it still works fine enough I found no reason to replace it. Included is a custom center console (see picture) which has a ton of extra storage and has cup holders. All door panels are in good condition and show normal signs of wear. The interior body panels are in good condition but a few of the linoleum panels have cracks in them. These cracks are superficial and do not look bad at all. The carpet in the camper area is in great condition with minimal signs of wear. The pop-top bed is in fantastic condition and the covers have been recently washed. The pop-top mechanism and latch works perfectly and has no issues opening or closing. The engine and transmission run smoothly and without issue. The transmission shifts as it should. The clutch “grabs” good and feels like it has a lot of life in it. The engine does not leak fluids and does not overheat at all. This westfalia has only been driven as a camping/road trip vehicle it has not been a daily driver. The previous owner only put about 2000-3000 miles on it per year. I have complete service records for the past 15 years. The exterior is very good condition considering its age. The paint still has a good shine to it but there are age-related blemishes on the body (these are NOT excessive and are to be expected with a 30 year old vehicle). There is one area of defect on the rear hatch (see picture) that is a small dent. It really is not that bad but I want any potential buyer to have full disclosure. This vehicle has spent its life in the Southwest so there is NO RUST on it. All mirrors, windows, latches and locks work as expected (although the rear hatch lock can be a little finicky to operate). The pop-top has been recently replaced and has no cracks, holes, etc. and it does not leak at all. Overall this Westy is in fantastic condition and will make the new owner very happy and proud! Now for the good part, here is a list of upgrades/repairs made within the last 10,000 miles….. REPAIRS: -New timing belt, water pump, drive belts, tensioner pulleys, plugs, wires, rotor, seals, thermostat, valve cover gasket, valve adjustment and coolant drain and flush----2/2012. -Oil change and transmission gear oil change—2/2012 -New clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. -New starter, fuel filter and air filter -New rear brake cylinders, pads and fluid flush -New front wheel bearings, fuel pump relay, and speedometer cable I have a file of all repairs for the last 15 years that I will include in the sale. UPGRADES: -New Pop-Top Canvas -New tires and shocks -New upgraded bumpers -New mud flaps both front and rear -New AM/FM CD stereo with MP3/Aux input -New front speakers -New front window seals -New OEM all-weather floor mats -New upholstery on ENTIRE lower bed -New carpet kit for rear camper area -New sliding, door handle with keys -New front nose bra -New trailer ball-hitch -New upgraded propane regulator This Westfalia is a really good looking vehicle and will make the new owner very happy. It is very reliable and I wouldn’t hesitate driving it across the country tomorrow. All of the upgrades and repairs have made this VW even better than ever. You will be hard pressed to find another Westy in this good of condition. Also, why would you want to spend good money on a Westfalia with an air-cooled/waterboxer motor that have been proven to be TOTALLY unreliable. With this Westy you will have peace of mind that the vehicle is solid and reliable. Feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THIS IS A 30 YEAR OLD VEHICLE AND IS ALSO A VW. PLEASE DO NOT EXPECT THIS VEHICLE TO BE A BRAND NEW CAR--REMEMBER IT IS A USED VEHICLE!! THAT BEING SAID, I STILL BELIEVE THAT IT IS ONE OF THE CLEANEST, NICEST AND MOST DEPENDABLE WESTFALIA'S THAT YOU WILL FIND!! I HAVE TRIED MY BEST TO BE COMPLETELY ACCURATE IN ITS DESCRIPTION BUT KNOW THAT WITH ANY USED VEHICLE THERE COULD BE POTENTIAL, UNFORSEEN ISSUES THAT COME UP. VANAGONS HAVE A LOT OF CHARACTER AND IF YOU HAVE NEVER OWNED A WESTFALIA THIS MAY NOT BE THE VEHICLE FOR YOU. I’M NOT TRYING TO SCARE ANYONE OFF I JUST WANT EVERY POTENTIAL BUYER TO BE FULLY AWARE OF WHAT THEIR BIDDING ON. Thanks and good luck!
