Vehicle Detail
1986 Volkswagen Vanagon Transporter– Westfalia Camper Weekender – Wolfsburg Edition This Vanagon Transporter was purchased from the estate of the original owner who was himself a Volkswagen Master Mechanic. The camper was purchased from Vallejo Volkswagen in Vallejo, CA on July 4th 1986. After moving from California it spent the remainder of its life in the Austin Texas area before being re-located to Tulsa Oklahoma by the owner’s son to sell after his death. Consequently you are looking at a totally rust free southern camper. The complete package of original owners manuals come with the Vanagon: Volkswagen warranty – authorized dealer directory – owners’ manual – camper manual and maintenance schedule book. This van was in excellent condition (never wrecked) when purchased, but needed some cosmetic attention. The paint is the original deep brown which is in wonderful overall condition. The interior of the Vanagon has been redone professionally. All new seat covers and cushions including the back cushion by the rear cabinets. New curtains have been installed and an updated original equipment tent with the optional side vent windows has also been installed. All the glass is in excellent condition as well. The camper top is in great shape and all new seals were installed on the top as well as the top vent. All interior trim pieces are intact: cupholders – table – door handles - refrigerator, etc. The mileage is low for a 1986 model year, but wear and tear is much lower than indicated. The owner trailered the car behind an RV touring North America (see the tow bar in pictures) so the mileage is not indicative of the use of the vehicle. Mechanically several items have been addressed to freshen it up mechanically. Recently installed items include: new muffler – new battery and alternator – new shocks – new fuel pump and filter – new plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor and replaced the clutch slave cylinder. The tires are in good shape with a brand new spare. This is a 4 speed model that shifts and drives great. This is a rare find of a well maintained Westfalia camper!
