Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1993 Volvo 240 Wagon. 2 owners in its title history- current owner purchased in 1996 with 46K on the odo and its been well maintained and garage kept. I should know, this is my parents car and was my moms daily driver. Times have changed and its last year has been spent rotating its life between my parents and my garage while I rebuilt my 850 (240 was my daily driver from Oct '10 to Feb '11) and its now time to send it on to its next owner. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 180,220 as indicated on the odo. The car is for sale locally and therefore the auction could end at any time (offered locally at $1700) regardless of bid status. The opening bid price with no reserve is the format for this auction. In the last five years this vehicle hasn't needed anything major although it did survive a 20 mph rear end collision in 2008 with a Jeep Liberty which caused it to get new motor mounts, a new exhaust system from Midas, and replacement rear bumper struts. The Jeep, well that's another story. It also survived my uncle backing into it while visiting from Michigan in 2007. That event resulted in a repaint of the hood and touch up of the fenders. The car's service has been through the dealership until the car reached 105K, then the car was maintained by a local well established shop (same that services my 850). General maintenance has included a new battery (2012) and a new alternator (summer, 2011). Timing belt was last replaced at 150K. Some fuses and relays have been replaced over time, and the car comes with an assortment of extra relays and /or fuses, belts, an air filter, and spark plugs (whatever is in the lockable well of storage area). This car starts right up and shifts into each gear without hesitation. I've driven it some distances in the past year, the longest was a 200 mile highway drive-just drove 20 flawless miles on March 5. THE CAR: Mileage 180,220 Exterior: Typical scrapes and scratches for its age. All trim moulding in place though in places its been bonded to the car with an adhesive. Tailgate latch has a dent in it courtesy of the Liberty. The metal around the rear wheel wells show a bend from the impact as well (bend follows the bend of the wheel well), as well as the rear bumper (doesn't jump out at you). Radio antenna is broken off. Windshield has a stone chip or two. Paint and clear coat all there although touched up in a few places (and where there are scrapes and scratches). There is a touch of rust in the rear wheel wells (back side of the well) as well as just below the brake lights and along the bottom lip of the tailtage opening. Rust is present as well on the bottom edge of tailgate door. The tail gate does not shut 100 percent flush (probably because of Jeep incident) but its 90 percent flush and it latches and locks. This condition has existed since 2008, and the left lower corner of the door is 1/8 on an inch above the frame of the car while the right lower corner of the door is almost flush with the car when the door is shut. I believe the condition still maintains water, air, and weather seals. While probably out of factory spec, it works just fine. Wheels/Tires: Original Volvo factory 14-inch alloy rims. Bridgestone 185 70 R14 tires have some life in them but need to be replaced soon. Passenger front is showing signs of dry rot. Interior: Power, heater mirrors and locks, heated front seats, rear defrost, A/C, AM/FM/Cassette factory radio, and child locks. Blue cloth interior (no tears) with Volvo durable hard plastic trim-all in pretty good shape. Arm rest (front) is broken off. Rear seats do not come with head rests. Rear seat doesn't fold down any more. Drivers side door map pouch is cracked. I have three keys for the car and title is in hand. ITS NEXT 100,000 miles: We've had the car inspected by the same mechanic who has been maintaining it for the last 75,000 miles-you are welcome to have your own inspection. For the car's next 100K, our mechanic says it needs: -New front struts, new rear shocks, new right front lower ball joint, a vacuum brake booster (to address check engine light WHICH IS ON), a fix for water pump gasket leak, new alternator belts, and a fix for the carrier bearing on the drive shaft, new tires and an alignment. Note, the SRS light is on as well, and I have no information related to that. THE SALE: My auctions: I've been on eBay since 1998 and selling since 1999, and a Volvo owner since 2001. While I mainly deal in collectibles and 850 Volvo parts this seems like a great format to move this car on to its new owner (rather than me selling it peice by peice). I have never sold a car before on eBay and I am not a dealer. I attempt to make my descriptions as clear as possible and my transactions as smooth as possible (see my feedback for verification). This item is offered AS IS NO WARRANTY and is priced accordingly. Indiana residents will pay sales tax at time a new title is requested. Residents outside Indiana, follow your own states regulations. $500 deposit via Paypal is required within 48 hours of the end of the auction. The remainder is due in the form of a US POSTAL MONEY ORDER. This auction has no fees tied to it that the buyer has to pay. Your bid is what you pay (plus whatever you need to spend on transport of the vehicle). Shipping is responsibility of the buyer. I will post more pics and am happy to email specific pics. Vehicle can be viewed in Indianapolis and must be picked up in Indianapolis area after winning bid. I am happy to assist with coordinating pickup after process is confirmed by buyer and pickup agent. Thanks for viewing and if any questions, just ask! And if anyone needs any interior parts via a buy it now auction for an 850 volvo with a gray interior just ask. Actively parting one out right now. I will probably just junk whats left (frame only forward of the wind shield, complete turbo engine with 210k on it- basically a shell of a car/rolling chassis with no interior, no lights, and no rear bumper) unless someone wants to make an offer more than the junkman. On Mar-06-12 at 08:04:15 PST, seller added the following information: WHEN CLEANING THE INTERIOR A BIT MORE I FOUND A SMALL AREA ON THE SIDE OF THE DRIVERS SEAT WHICH SHOWS SOME WEAR-side of seat is TORN just a bit. I a posting a pic as well as others of the interior. It was blocked initially from view by the seatbelt. On Mar-09-12 at 12:41:21 PST, seller added the following information: 2nd UPDATE. OK, given the overwhelming interest in the car the current owners are choosing to let the auction process finish out and will not accept any offers prior to the close of the auction. This is out of fairness to all who want to be involved, and respect for the process. We had two showings today and the car as 30 more miles on the ODO. Current mileage 180,250 (revised information). Four more showings are planned at this time. In an effort to be as straight forward as possible, I will tell all about the first two showings. First showing was for a nice couple who traveled an hour to see and drive the car. The only disappointment in their visit (that I could tell) was that I did not make clear to them prior to their arrival that the auction process will determine the new owner-no buy it now like offers are being considered (this statement revises the original listing language). That said, first couple was not shy in putting the vehicle thru its paces and I would say the vehicle showed nicely. They left satisfied in my opinion. The second showing was immediately after and was for a young couple looking for a family vehicle. The car again showed nicely and drove smoothly and initially was driven some distance, but when it was slowed into a parking space by the driver (to switch drivers) it stalled out. It was restarted several times and continued to stall out. I was asked to start the car and get it going and it did just that. The drivers were switched and it drove again for some distance with stops and starts without issue. Upon the driver slowing to again park in a parking space it stalled out. After restarting the car and sitting for a minute with it idling at a slightly elevated level, I then drove the car home without issue. This condition has not occurred previously, did not occur for the prior showing, and did not occur again today. Just thought I would share. On Mar-11-12 at 17:03:35 PDT, seller added the following information: LAST AND FINAL REVISION: CURRENT AND FINAL MILEAGE ON THE ODO PRIOR TO END OF AUCTION: 180275mi SHOWINGS ARE OVER AND BEST OF LUCK TO ALL! THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT CAR FOR OUR FAMILY AND WILL ENJOY A NEW HOME! THANKS!!!
