Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 It got to 65 degrees in Iowa today; unbelievable! I pulled all four plugs and put two ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil into each cylinder. Then I clicked it down into 5th gear and walked it down the driveway. I could hear good “swishing” action in all of the cylinders so I know the pistons are moving well. That Marvel will continue to work its way into the rings and cylinder sides. I pulled the battery out of it (bone dry) that it went into storage with and filled the cells with water and charged it for two days. At the end of that time I had about 8 volts which surprised me as I didn’t think it would do anything. I re-installed it and hooked the battery charger back up to it in the bike’s circuits and checked all of the lights, horn, and electric starter. The starter wouldn’t turn it (battery too weak) over but it did try to engage so with a fully charged battery it should be okay. I noticed a small tear in the seat that I didn't mention in the description above. On Mar-08-12 at 07:25:25 PST, seller added the following information: I had someone ask me some questions and eBay didn't give me a box to check for adding it to the auction so I am putting it in here as a revision. As stated above, I have never heard this bike run and only know what I was told by the owner's daughter the day I bought it. Thanks! The front brake does not engage. The grip handle moves full distance with no response. My best guess would be that the small parts in the master cylinder (or the caliper) are gunked up from sitting and not moving. I see no signs of damage to any of the lines or parts. The rear brake (mechanical) works just fine. I tried cranking the engine with the electric start but the existing old battery (hooked with a charger) was not enough to turn it over. It did try to engage but just clicked (not enough voltage). Honestly, I would be hesitant to crank it much anyway until you got that old oil out and made sure there was fresh lubrication going to the cylinders. There is no kick start on this model. Basically, after sitting that long a person is going to have to go through every system (lubrication, electrical, starting, etc.) and be sure everything is freed-up and working before trying to get it running. I bought a BMW once that had sat a similar time period and just took it to the dealer and said, "Make it work and make it right". It cost me some big bucks but that was the smoothest running bike I ever owned and I never worried about any of it being right. These big bikes are so complicated that you have to either be really good yourself or trust it to the pros.
