Vehicle Detail
This is a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta. It is a black VR6 sedan with a tan leather interior. It has several options like moon roof, power windows, heated seats, and other convenience features. The car is currently NOT RUNNING. It WAS running fine when driven to a local mechanic. The 'charge' lamp was illuminated on the dash and the alternator was not charging the battery. The mechanic replaced the alternator, but the charge lamp did not go out and the car still did not charge. He troubleshot the problem to the instrument cluster circuitry. After trying to re-install the instrument cluster he discovered the car would start then immediately die. This is because the anti theft system (immobilizer) is in the instrument cluster, and will require programming by a VW dealership (or someone with the right programming tools) to get the car started again. It is possible also that the alternator problem may still not be fixed. The car has high miles (believed to be somewhere around 125,000 to 155,000 miles - not positive because the battery was dead when I last stopped by the mechanic to check it, and I don't remember now). I do not want to put any more money in the car, especially since the battery may still not charge after re-programming the cluster, so I'm selling it just like it is. Someone can either fix the issues and drive it, or use the parts on another car (it has many good ones). The car would probably be worth cleaning and fixing up for someone. Just not for me. The body is fairly rough. Paint on the hood is chipped along the front edge. At least one panel has been repainted in the front that I can tell (by looking very close at the paint). The left rear quarter panel has a dent and a few big scratches. The headlights are faded. The interior is also rough. Both leather front seat bottoms are ripped, torn, and badly worn. The carpet is stained. The headliner is OK but not great. The engine was running when the car was dropped off. In fact it was driven to the mechanic. There was no smoke and no bad noises from the engine at the time. The check engine (MIL) lamp was OFF when it was dropped off for the alternator problem. The transmission shifted and worked fine. There are MANY leaks from the engine and transmission. Seems to be seals and hoses. The car was leaving spots in the driveway. The tires look good with lots of wear left but I think one might have a slow leak. The suspension provided a pretty good ride, but the shocks and struts have lots of miles and will need eventual replacement. The winner of this car will need to pay for it right after auction end (PayPal or cash Preferred) and remove it from the Mechanic's lot IMMEDIATELY after payment has cleared the bank, unless other satisfactory arrangements are made. The car can be picked up during his business hours in Fairview, TN. Please look at the pics. This is not a cherry car. It is in rough shape and needs work. It will need to be towed away as it will NOT start and run. Please consider this when bidding. I have the title with no liens, plus one remote-entry switchblade key and one valet key. Thanks for your interest. Write me with questions, and good luck. On Mar-04-12 at 10:16:52 PST, seller added the following information: I was able stop by the mechanic this weekend and get the actual mileage. It is 136,113. Please see new picture of instruments under power.
