Vehicle Detail
I am the third owner of this awesome truck. I have owned many Scout 80’s and 800’s over the last 15 years. This is the seventh Scout 80 I have owned and the cleanest one I have ever seen. This one spent its entire life in Arizona up until I bought it. The original owner bought it new off the lot and didn't sell it until he was 75 years old. The second owner, his next door neighbor bought it and 6 months later got transferred to Michigan and didn't have a garage for it. He sold it to me under the promise that I kept it garaged and off the winter roads. When I say it is rust free it is no exaggeration. I had the body stripped down to bare metal and there was not a spec of rust anywhere, no bondo, nothing. There were a few minor dings here and there to address, all so minor that they were simply banged out. You will not find a more smooth, straight, clean, scout 80. All paint and body work were done professionally by one of the best in the business, a true perfectionist. The paint job/body work took 8 months and $14k to complete. I did the interior with a spray in bedliner material as I figured it would be more durable than to paint the entire interior. My intention was never to make this a trailer queen or museum piece though it would take very little to finish this thing off in such a manner. The previous owner replaced the seats, steering wheel, and wheels with modern ones. I found a ’63 parts rig that had all of the original parts and returned it back to that state. I tracked down the rear bench seat in Oregon. I had the front bucket seats, rear bench seat, and wheels sandblasted and powdercoated. I had the upholstery redone at Barretts, the go to guy in my area, again he is the best at what he does. A friend made the custom soft top, though I have the original full hardtop as well. The soft top frame is easily removeable with just a few bolts. I took the hardtop off when I purchased it and it has been stored inside since, it is in unrestored original condition. I also replaced the rear bumper with the original stamped bumper (like the front bumper). I saved the one that was on it and it was original, just way to heavy duty for my liking. The only thing that was missing from this scout were the vacuum wipers, I assume living in Arizona they just didn’t need them. I had them fill in the wiper holes when they were doing the body work as I never had any intentions of driving the vehicle unless it was sunny. Some things I've done Replace the exhaust system New Windshield Paint/body work Newly upholstered seats Dropped both original gas tanks, had them blasted and lined and installed a new fuel pump Custom Removeable Soft Top New Battery New Tires The only thing it currently needs is the carburator rebuilt. There is a bad seal and it leaks just a tiny bit of fuel. I had a guy rebuild the carb a few years ago and he didn't do a very good job. It is still driveable as is which is why I haven’t gotten around to fixing it. Also the odometer quit working soon after I purchased it, I have probably put a total of 150 miles on it as I have spent the last 4 years restoring it and I had two other scouts I could drive. This scout has the dual original gas tanks both in working condition, the motor is the original 152 with the oil bath system, 3spd with twin stick transfer case. It has the fold down windshield. It did not have side mirrors so I didn’t add any though I did add a rear view mirror that came out of a 67 Scout 800. It is a great driver as is, a little more work and you would have perfection. The other thing I feel I should mention is aside from the exhaust this vehicle is stock/untouched underneath. Original shocks, springs, frame, axles, etc. It is all extremely clean and would be a great project to finish out for a total restoration. Any questions just ask.
