This Galaxie is a great example of a mostly original body and interior in a great color combination. This long time FAVORITE of so many has a built 428 and 4 speed, according to the seller’s records from the previous owner. The seller purchased this Galaxie from a family who had it for 15 years. He knows of previously performed engine work on the car in 1981, and believes it is still intact from that build today. According to our research, the trim tag is deciphered as: Body 62 B = Galaxie 500 2 door Fastback Color J = Carnival Red Trim 75 = Red Date 01F = June 1st DSO 22 = Charlotte Axle 5 = 3.50:1 Trans 1 = 3 speed manual shift Also, breaking down the VIN number: 4 (1964) A (Atlanta) 66 (2 door Fastback) Z (8 cyl 390 c.i. 4 barrel) 184954 – production number *Bidders/buyers are required to do their own research to confirm. DETAILS OF CAR: [ Paint ] – From 30 feet away, the paint looks almost flawless. It is nice and shiny, and appears to match well. When you get up close, it still looks nice, and matches well, but you can see the paint is getting a little thin (especially the top surfaces). It looks like it may even partially be the original paint. The top surfaces measure between 3 – 5 thousands, and the sides are a few thousands of an inch thicker. The sides may have been lightly recoated at some time. The edges of some of the panels, are wearing thin. There are a few other thin spots, as well as a slight scrape on the left rear, and signs of a small body repair on the right rear corner. See the additional close up photos. There are maybe a half dozen 1/8” – 1/4” nicks around the car that could easily be touched up, if you wanted to. There is also a little deterioration where the top meets the rear quarters. Overall, the bright red paint shows well in its present condition, and makes this Galaxie a striking driver. [ Body ] - The body looks very straight and correct. It is a great example of a nicely preserved body that has had very little work done to it. There is a tiny little dimple in the trunk that we could not even capture on the camera for a photo. The hood has 2 – 3 little dimples about 6” from the left fender. They are only slightly noticeable at just the right angle. There is also a little scrape behind the left rear tire, and maybe another slight dimple or 2. In going over the body with a magnet, we were able to detect some repair work done at some point to the right rear corner. We also believe there was some slight repair at the bottom lower portion of that panel. The left lower quarter panel does not indicate that same repair. [ Chrome/Bright Work ] – The stainless that surrounds the glass and the top is in very nice condition and free of noticeable damage, for the most part. It still shines very well, but could be buffed a little brighter. The forward portion of both vents and of both rear windows have a chrome piece that is slightly pitted - but still shows well. The stainless down the sides is in nice condition. The insert part shows some wear but is mostly free of anything other than dimples. The same is true of the lower pieces. The chrome door handles have some pitting. The front grill and front and rear bumpers look free of damage, although the front bumper has some light scratches on the top, and the rear bumper is lightly pitted (particularly on the top side). [ Glass ] – This Galaxie has very nice, older glass, with minimal wear showing. The glass on the vents, side windows, and rear window all say Car Lite. The front windshield says Sun Shield by PPG. All of the glass looks nice and clear. There is a slight amount of scuffing on the center section of the passenger mirror, but it is hardly noticeable. We did not see any delamination, bulls eyes, or cracks. The wiper wear is very minimal, if at all. [ Interior ] – The interior looks mostly original, with very little replacements. You will notice some change in color in the interior. For instance, the top section of the doors is darker than the bottom. The carpet looks “older”, with a few flaws, but is very presentable overall. The head liner is in very nice condition without any noticeable tears or separation. The sun visors are good and solid, and not breaking down. The dash has very nice paint, and shows minimal wear. There is some slight deterioration around the wording on switches, temperature and fuel gauges, etc., and the silver has slightly deteriorated. It is best to review all of the photos to get an idea of its true condition. But in general, it is nice and very presentable. [ Trunk ] – Inside the trunk, you can see the spare tire and a covering over the floor. Looking at the floor pans, you can see what beautiful condition the floor is still in. [ Tires and Wheels ] – The front tires are Supreme Radials S – 112, size 195 – 70 – 14. The rears are Firestone Firehawks Radials, size 275 – 60- 15. We do not see any cracking or curb damage on the tires or wheels. The finish looks good on all 4. The only sign of wear is a little bit on the lugs, and some slight pitting on the adapters. [ Engine area ] – Although this Galaxie does not have the original engine, you can see that the firewall, wheel wells, etc., have not been modified or greatly altered from what they were originally, except for the placement of the overflow bottle. [ Chassis ] – The pictures of the frame may look extra light, as we shined a very bright light underneath to show the pristine condition of the frame and body. Some of the areas are “over exposed” with extra light on purpose. We did not detect any signs of rust perforation or obvious rust repairs on the frame, floor, or trunk. The bottom side does appear to have some older rust proofing, but overall, it was left intact and looks very natural underneath. That way, you can see how solid and close-to-original it is. The front of the engine and front seal are a little damp. We also saw some seeping down the inspection cover (between the transmission and engine) and dampness on the bottom side. There is some oil seepage on the bottom side of the engine area. In the additional pictures you can see the exhaust pipes and mufflers are Cherry Bomb Turbo and look fairly new. [ Mechanical ] – Chad tried the following items, and they were working at the time of the listing: Parking brake Clutch (appears to work properly though it does not return up the last inch or so) Brakes Tail lights Low and high beams Left and right turn signals, front and rear (but do not cancel on their own) Both back up lights One speed windshield wipers AM radio (tuner adjust properly, and speakers work) 4 crank windows and 2 vent windows (right vent window gearing does slip a little bit when closed tight) Both remote openers for air vents Cigarette lighter Horn Fuel gauge Since Chad was alone, he was unable to check the brake lights (but the owner tells us they do work). The clock and the temperature gauge on the dash are not working. Also, the turn signals work, but do not cancel correctly. The car seems to run properly. It drives and steers very well. At highway speeds, there is a little vibration and movement in the steering wheel. It shifts smoothly and easily into all 4 gears and reverse. The clutch also seems to work fine. According to the speedometer, when running at 60mph, the engine is running about 25-2600 RPMS. When warmed up, idling, and running over 30 minutes, it is idling around 900-1000 RPMS.
