Vehicle Detail

1978 Dodge Li’l Red Express 1 of 2,188 produced These little trucks were produced in ’78 and ’79. The 1979 production number was 5,118. Originally came with an 850 ThermoQuad, but now has a 670 Street Avenger Holley and Edelbrock intake. 1.5:1 ratio bronzed rocker arms. Heavy duty valve springs and dampers, purple-shaft 340 cam, 252 dg. duration. Double roller timing chain, selective crank and heavy duty main bearings and windage tray. Motor was completely balanced and rebuilt, bored 30 over with HyperButectic pistons. Less than 2000 mi. on the rebuild. Equipped with Ram Air/chromed dual snorkel air cleaner with chrome valve covers. New hoses, belts, alternator, starter, just serviced and ready for your enjoyment. These Li’l Reds were the quickest production vehicle produced in 1978. The elapsed time was 14.71 at 93mph.; quicker than the Corvette, Mustang, Porsche 928 (15.31), Ferrari 308/GTS (which ran 15.8) etc. The Li’s Red’s top speed was 118.8 mph. which was reached in 19.9 seconds. Not bad for a 3,400+ pound truck. TORQUE and HORSEPOWER Dyno Test concluded that the EH1 360 c.i. motor had 225 net H.P. at 3,800 rpm and 340 ft. lbs. of torque at 4,400 rpm. Transmission: A727 Load Flite with 440 valve body and high-stall non-lock-up torque converter. Rear End: Completely rebuilt Code AV2, 9.25, 355:1 ratio with limited slip. New bearings, seals, etc. Exhaust: 2 1/2 “ aluminized exhaust with FloMasters. 2 original stacks; stainless in excellent condition. Sounds very throaty. Body: Very straight, rust-free body. No dents, no dings. Spent the first 16 years in New Mexico, and the last 18 years in Southern Oregon. New bedside wood with stainless, smooth-headed bolts. Exterior cargo lamp, order code NE1. Exterior was recently repainted original code RR4/PY/3442 Bright Canyon Red. Very shiny; needs to be color-sanded and buffed to be show quality; but otherwise very presentable. Re-chromed front and rear bumpers. New Li’l Red Express decal kit included; the decals on the pickup are fine. Chrome rear steps. Recent windshield and seal; new chrome trim for windshield not installed but included; new door weatherstrips. Wheels and Tires: 15x8 factory steel wheels with slots; are original and were rechromed. 15x8 fronts, it originally came with 15x7 fronts and I will include them in sale. 275/60s rear; 255/60s front. New lug nuts and center caps. Interior: Bucket seats with fold-down center arm rest. Seats were completely restored. NOS dash bezel; NOS AM/FM 8-track; 15” tuff-type steering wheel. Recent carpet installed, but not to original specs. It was originally equipped with 80/20 cut pile. A new correct Legendary carpet kit is included with sale. Very nice interior with no tears or stains. It is missing the right door speaker cover. The original seat belts are in very nice condition with no frays or stains. Very nice interior paint including headliner area as shown in picture. Manual window cranks; windows roll up and down fine. Glass is very clear. Options: Cruise control, power steering, power disc brakes, slider rear window, heater/defroster work excellent. Large, 18 gallon fuel tank. 10” interior day/night mirror. Oil pressure, temperature gauges. This is a very nice driving, handling, performing pickup. It has no known mechanical issues. Very reliable, starts every time; a turn-key truck. Thumbs up everywhere it's driven. Very comfortable seating. Great little local cruise and show truck. It has won awards at local shows. This isn't a perfect nut and bolt restoration, but was partially restored with the intent to drive and enjoy. When was the last time you saw one of these headed down the road? I'm listing this pickup for a friend. I have a wealth of literature, magazines, code and fact books plus "The Li'l Red Book" by Skip Gibbs, a renowned Li'l Red Express expert and owner. I've tried to list everything as accurately and honestly as possible. This vehicle is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Please call 541-659-8697 with any questions. Good luck bidding on a very nice truck!
