Vehicle Detail

1982 Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel Pickup Truck This great little truck was purchased 02/82, at Jim Ellis VW in Chamblee Ga, by a couple in their sixties to enjoy retirement. They owned a mobile home in Fla while living North of Atlanta in Duluth, GA, this was a back and forth truck for two years. On October 31st 1984 it had 51964 miles according to a maintenance log entry. The husband contracted an illness in 1985 and after a short sickness passed away, leaving the truck to his widow. As there was no trash service where she lived the truck was used to deliver trash to the dump and haul yard debris. On 6/01/2002 new tires were purchased, at that time the truck had 75,125 miles on it according to the receipt. The Tires are on the truck now and almost no tread is gone. In 2007 the owner moved to South Carolina to be close to family. She passed away in late 2011 at 89 yoa, and left the truck in her estate where I purchased it at the estate sale. The odometer reads 75531 but was not turning when I drove it. When driving it I noticed no rattles or vibrations, it was perky and lots of fun, also the air was blowing ice cold. I stopped in the driveway to check the heater as it was parked under a carport in the backyard, the heater worked fine, I noticed the fuel leak at that time, I couldn’t resist as I already drove it, so I bought it. After towing it home on a trailer I took off the timing chain cover and I think the leak is coming from the shaft seal to the fuel injection unit. I have read it is a common problem. I am a shade tree type guy and don’t have any of the tools needed to retime the thing if it needs it, after looking at some of these for sale it appears that VW guys like to fix things themselves, so I am selling it with the leak. It can be driven, but the gas mileage would be horrible. The interior is clean, the seats aren’t ripped or cracked and they have those wooden bead things on them. The floor mats are original. There is shag carpet behind the seats and the head liner has been replaced. The dash doesn’t have any cracks. The clock works, the dash lights work, the interior light works. The exterior has normal wear, a few little dings and such, it has the original dealer pin stripes and trim, and it doesn’t appear to have ever been wrecked or repainted. There is a rust spot on the hood where something hit it, and normal surface rust on the bed. There is a crack in the windshield. Under the hood there is no rust. The owner mentioned a recent 800.00 repair his mother mentioned but didn’t know what is was, I noticed the power steering rack was bright blue so I assume it was recently replaced. The truck did not smoke when I started it or drove it. I’m not a dealer, I will answer any questions as best I can. On Jan-15-12 at 18:34:28 PST, seller added the following information: The parking brake works, as do the wipers. It is a four speed. On Jan-15-12 at 18:46:02 PST, seller added the following information: The top and hood have pollen on them and are not discolored. The acorns behind the drivers side strut were from a rat nest. Thanks for the questions. On Jan-18-12 at 07:35:11 PST, seller added the following information: Thanks for all the questions, to many to post them all. The block is light green, the alternator is a bosch. I don't know the gas mileage, but fuel looks like it is going up in the near future. I don't know what a paint job cost, I know you won't have to spend countless hours cutting out rust and filling holes. I don't know the repair cost for the leak, after many questions I am going to get a few quotes. thanks
