Vehicle Detail

Offered here is a barn found BMW rat bike. This bike would be an excellant foundation for a cafe bike or ? The bike was built by the previous owner from a couple of bikes he acquired from a bike dealer when it closed. He assembled the bike and didn't run too many miles with it. He said he sent the heads off for the "dual plugging" machine work, which is fairly expensive. The bike then sat in dry storage for about 15 years. Upon removal from the barn, I went over the basics, added a battery and the machine fired right up on the first hit of the switch and idled as it should. The bike has a 1971 R75/5 frame / chassis and a 1974 R60/6 engine and 5 speed transmission. The engine has been dual plugged and utilizes dual lead "K/V" coils. The engine runs great with occasional minor smoke upon start up. Has manual kick starter and working electric starter. The transmission shifts as it should and the drive train seems sound. I have personally ran it a hundred miles or so around the neighborhood. No significant oil leaks evident but the push rod tube seals look pretty old and cracked. The fuel tank is a later model BMW "Toaster" tank without the side panels or BMW badges. The headlight is a "Puch" headlight nacelle with a matching "Puch" speedometer. The stock BMW speedometer cable was attached but it was broken and therefore removed. The electrical system will need to be sorted out. The charging system / headlight and tail light function. Tires were "new" 15 years ago and are weather checked / cracked with lots of tread. The mileage on the chassis and drive train is unknown. I have changed the engine oil / filter and checked gear boxes. Also lubed the front / rear wheel bearings. The old engine oil came out clean. I tore the old oil filter apart and found no metal or signs of anything else bad. I also pulled the carbs apart and checked them over, they looked good. The bike has a center stand and a side stand. All handlebar controls are the stock /5 BMW type. Look the photos over, what you see is what you get. Please ask any questions you may have. The person I purchased the bike from failed to follow through with supplying me a title. I had all the serial numbers verified / checked with my local State Patrol and applied for a bonded title in my home state but have not yet received the final paperwork. With that said, the bike will be sold with a Bill of Sale, and the title will be forwarded to the winning bidder if / when I receive it. Sold as is. Pick up at my Yuma AZ. location will be required.
