Vehicle Detail
1975 BMW R90S This BMW is a very rare, special and desirable bike, arguably, THE collectible BWM from the 1970’s . The R90S was only produced for three years, 1974, 75 and 76, it was BMW’s first sport bike and was the first production motorcycle from any manufacturer to sport a factory fairing. The gearing is higher and the engine has higher compression. It is fed by 38mm Del'Orto carburetors and produces 75hp compared to 67hp of the standard R90/6.. Back in the late 1970’s Reg Pridmore of Los Angeles prepared this R90S with the following very desirable period modifications: v 10 ½ gallon Heinrick gas tank with top tool tray v Morris mag wheels with rear disc brake v 3 quart oil pan v Stainless steel brake lines v Cast iron front brake rotors v Koni shocks v Tall windshield (the short version is readily available of you don’t like the look of the tall one) v Boyer electronic ignition The current owner purchased this R90S in 2001. At that time the bike had only a few hundred miles on new rear-drive splines and the machine ran perfectly. It was put into storage and has remained there ever since. At this point with just a little mechanical work the bike should be ready to cruise. A new battery was just installed to get it running again. It will need a carburetor cleaning as it doesn’t idle well at this point. Also, the steering head bearings are in need of at least a cleaning and re-greasing but possibly replacement as the steering is very “lumpy.” The bike has always been stored inside and has no corrosion issues. The body work is all un-dented and without rust… a small exception being a little denting, paint loss and surface rust on the trailing edge of the seat’s cowling. There are a few scratches in the paint, the most noticeable being the one on the top of the tank (clearly visible in the photos.) The seat is excellent with not a scratch or tear to the vinyl. The Morris mags are excellent and while the tires have tread, they are old enough to warrant replacement on age alone. The exhaust is very good, without any major dents or scratches. It does have some fine boot scratching, a very small ding, along with the typical bluing on the headers. Other chrome on the bike is in great condition. The gauges show slight fading in the dials and the rubber hood on the speedometer has deteriorated and will need replacement. All of the handlebar controls are in good condition with just a bit of fading. The engine itself looks very good and will need only a little elbow grease to make it show worthy. When you pull the seat off and look below, all of the wiring, relays, etc look great. The forks look very good, great chrome on the legs, good rubber on the seal covers and there is no leaking from the seals. The bike still has the under seat tool tray and the factory tool roll along with its tools. The kit looks to be complete but I do not know that for sure. There are luggage mounts installed but no luggage. The owner has a good Washington State title in his name. All in all this is a very rare bike with wonderful period modifications, one that could be a real showpiece with a little work. If you would to inspect this bike in person I will be very happy to help arrange a visit. The bike is in Normandy Park, WA, a ten minute drive from the Seattle/Tacoma airport. Also, I am very happy to do all that I can on this end to help in stateside or overseas shipment. I can deliver the bike to a local shipping company to save you the cost of having it picked up at my residence. If you have any questions at all please feel free to call or e-mail. My cell number is (206)276-9791 and I can be reached up until about 10:00PM (Pacific time zone.). Attached are all of the photos I have of the bike but I will be happy to photograph any details that you would like to see. Please be prepared to make a $500 deposit through Pay-Pal, Cashiers Check or Money Order to be received by me within 48 hours of the end of the auction and pay the balance within 10 days of the end of the auction. I would like to see the bike picked up soon after the sale goes through but might be able to store it for a short time if need be.
