LIFE IS TOO SHORT FOR A BORING CAR! 1956 Dodge C-4-PW that was a frame off restoration, completed 4.5 years ago. Always garaged since with less than 1,000 miles put on truck. Resides in NC and is used to move my boat to and from marina and for hauling yard debris. Removable bench seat in bed, place to bring kids to the beach. ALWAYS gets attention, which truely amazes my wife. She proclaimed,"I now know how Pamela Anderson must feel, but they are not looking at me!" Forged from the battlefields of WWll, the Power Wagon was the civilian name placed on the military designated M-37. It served a variety of functions in the war: weapons/troop carrier, ambulance, tow truck, etc. This versatility carried over to the domestic market. Often called the most versatile truck every built and a truck "with a 1000 uses" it lived up to it's reputation earned in war and helped grow this country's prosperity. Historic for its pulling power, it was heavily put to use in farming, construction, fire fighting, and forestry industries. The domestic version was not significantly changed from it's wartime older brother and remained basically unchanged from 1946-1968. Roughly 95,000 were made in the 22 year run. The "civilian" version had the creature comforts of a "air-ride" bench seat over the canvas military version, and luxuries such as arm rests, inside panels, and vented glass on the doors and front windshield. I must emphasize that this is a BEAST and laughs at "trucks" with PS,PB,PW, A/C, radios, and speed. You have to double clutch even with the synchro 4 speed transmission. It can go anywhere, over any terrain, but at it's own pace. A true work-horse of a vehicle. Nicely done frame off restoration. Truck originated in Michigan construction company. Restored in IL by a PW enthusiast and mechanic. Any rust cut out. All metal. New oak in bed. Original engine held compression but smoked, so swapped out for similar age 230 CID L straight 6 and transmission from military version M-37. I have original engine, transmission and PTO in MD. They will go with sale of vehicle with engine stand also included. Separate pick-up or shipping would need to be arranged. The vehicle has top speed of 55MPH but even that is pushing it. 9.00 X 16 unidirectional military 8 ply tires in like new condition. Runs, drives, and stops well. Double clutching required and an art in itself. 12 volt electrical system.Turn signals were optional years ago, but two variants of original switches and military style signals included, but their restoration needs completion. Horn included, but not installed. Pintle hook with heavy duty hand made rear bumper. Some door glass original. No cracks. 6 volt heater with voltage regulator restored but never used. Had new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, water pump and fuel pump with the resto.Shifts into 4 wheel drive easily. No tears in cabin. No rust. Truck demands to by used and will not disappoint. I have more pictures but truck lines are straight and engine bullet-proof. Vehicle literature and over $300 worth of books/manuals come with vehicle. Have some of the original pictures as well. Selling to make room for other "toys", so reserve very reasonable. Go ahead, be the envy of your guy friends and make your wife feel beautiful....
