Vehicle Detail
This car was bought from a family who purchased it in 1969 and passed it down through three generations. It is a 1968 Chevelle Malibu 307 Powerglide with A/C and power steering. The A/C is not working, but everything is there. The compressor had a belt on it when I got it, but the clutch bearing was noisy so I cut it off. All the components look to be there, however the lines were loose at the condenser, so I am sure it will need some parts replaced to get the A/C going. It originally had manual drum brakes all around. Since buying it I have converted the front brakes to 69 OEM-style disc brakes with high quality Wagner, BCA, National and Dorman parts. I used a reman master cylinder that fits 67 Chevy II with manual disc (I had it on the shelf for a future project). It still needs the correct proportion valve, or a booster/master cylinder/prop valve combo from CPP or the like. I machined down the original drum spindle and bought a caliper bracket from CPP. While doing this work, I replaced the front sway bar links and bushings, installed new front shocks and cut exactly one coil from the springs. If I were to keep it, I think it could use ½ more coil cut to get a little lower. The ride quality is very nice with this setup. I had the original seats recovered with black vinyl upholstery bought from OPG, and also replaced the package tray cardboard. The steering wheel is a nice wood Grant unit with the red, white and blue brushed aluminum horn button. The steering wheel is off-center and needs to be corrected. The floor pans need some attention, front and rear. The body has had rear quarter inner and outer patch panels welded in behind the rear wheels. About ten years prior the metal around the rear glass was replaced. However, the piece that is the rear package shelf and extends all the way to the trunk weatherstrip lip is rusted out. If you lie on your back in the trunk it is visible. With the trunk lid down, it is not visible. The 307 is quite unmolested. It even has the metal heat tube from the manifold to air cleaner. When I got it started, the alternator was not charging. I removed the old alternator and external regulator and installed a CS-130. It works great, but it looks like the belt alignment is off some and will need shimming/adjusting. The belt has not made a noise or flew off, so it isn’t very bad out of alignment. The two speed Powerglide shifts out great, but has a pretty substantial leak somewhere, possibly the shift shaft seal. All the lights and turn signals work. Also included will be all the extra parts for the car, and the trim not already on the car. I have the trim that goes by the headlights, the piece that attaches to the left hand quarter glass and seals the two side glasses, new weatherstripping for those pieces and assorted other trim. The man I bought the car from had collected quite a bit of NOS stuff, but a lot of it deteriorated over the years (the tail light lenses that are on the car are NOS). There is an extra set of rear tail light bezels. Depending on what you are looking for, this could be a lot of car to a lot of people. If you wanted a great driver, this wouldn’t need a ton of work or money. If you want a ground up restoration/restification, it is a great starting point. Please call 903-276-3408 with any questions you have about the car and I will be honest and straight with you. High bidder will need to work out any delivery or pick-up issues. Full payment due in 7 days. On Dec-16-11 at 15:44:00 PST, seller added the following information: Wanted to add, the wheels are brand new Wheel Vintiques 62 Series, 15X7 on front with new 235/60R15 tires, rear are 15X8 with new 275/60R15 tires. I painted the wheels a newer Hyundai green that is somewhat close to the original color. While mounting one of the front tires, I made a pretty good scrape along the wheel lip that will need to be repainted (I really figure whoever buys it will want to change the color anyway). Thank you and God Bless!
