This CB400F is a great bike for a person with some time and mechanical ability. I bought this bike last summer and based upon what the seller told me, I believed it would be a simple matter for my mechanic to tune it up and get me out on the road. Unfortunately, when our mechanic got into the bike, he found it wouldn’t be that easy. There wasn’t a lot wrong, but what there was would require too many of his hours to make it economically worthwhile to do the work. So we have decided to move on and let someone else who has the time and inclination get the bike up and running properly. Here is a list of what our mechanic says are the issues: 1. Wiring has been patched up and isn’t easily repaired without replacing the wiring harness. The CB400F wiring harness isn’t always easy to find but a new harness is available from http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk in England for about $150. 2. The adjustment screw on the cam chain tensioner has broken off and fallen into the case. The engine still runs but makes a racket. As to how far it would go is anyone’s guess. My mechanic says the engine has to be pulled and opened to make the repair. 3. Starter button isn’t working. Available on EBay or from http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk for about $100. 4. Rubber carb manifolds need replacing. They are hard as a rock. 5. Cases were painted by the previous owner in the wrong color silver. This might not bother most people. Cosmetically, the bike is in terrific condition as can be seen in the pictures. It has a small ding in the fuel tank but that is the only significant item worth noting. The CB400F has a clear title with WA collector’s plates in my name. The bike is located at my mechanic’s shop in Issaquah, Washington.
