Vehicle Detail
1973 BMW 2002 tii VIN 2762650 This is a California car that I purchased in 1997 for $7000.00. The previous owner was doing an auto cross / street restoration. I bought it from him and used it as a daily driver for three years. Since then it has been garaged and covered and driven on weekends. The motor was totally rebuilt in 1993 by Carl Nelson at La Jolla Independent in San Diego. It has approximately 30,000 miles on the rebuild. Speedometer is not working. The Kugelfischer injection unit was rebuilt in 2001 and has upgraded nylon throttle linkage rods. Battery replaced and relocated to the trunk. Motor upgrades include 9.5:1 pistons, Schrick 284 cam, aluminum intake manifold, K&N air filter, stock tii manifold to 2¼ inch side exhaust to a Flow Master muffler. This car sounds GREAT and runs strong. I replaced clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder, alternator, voltage regulator, dist cap, rotor and installed Pertronix electronic ignition. The fuel pump, radiator, hoses, thermostat and water pump were also replaced. In 1998 the transmission was converted to a 5-speed with an Aardvarc Racing Conversion kit and a short shift kit. It has a 3.64:1 limited slip differential rebuilt by Bavarian Rennsport. Drive shaft balanced and center support replaced. Oversized vented disc brakes on front, stainless steel brake lines, 320i drum brakes on rear. Discs and pads have recently been replaced. Tie rods / ends and sway bars replaced and strut tower brace added. In 1999 a new close-ratio steering box was fitted. Bilstein shocks in the rear. The car has a very tight feel to it. Body - The car was repainted in 1998 a shade of Burgundy, slightly off the original Malaga. All body seals and moldings were replaced. The front fenders were replaced as well as the rear center panel. The car does have a few rust spots. Around the rear window there are three spots that have popped up within the last two years. They are 4”x ½”, 2”x1/4”, and 1’x1/4”. (See photos) The spare tire well also has a spot that has rusted all the way out. There is no rust in the shock towers, wheel wells, or quarters. There is a small eraser sized surface spot on the drivers side rocker by the rear jack point. The left front fender was repainted about 8 years ago and has faded. (See photo) There are a few dings on the car. The rear bumper has been replaced with a Euro bumper center with built in plate lights. The turn indicators have been replaced with flush Euro lenses. Upgraded Hella Halogen headlights. The car has 3 series rims with newer Cooper tires. Interior is black with Recaro seats and steering wheel from a 320is. The black carpet is wearing through and could stand replacing. The headliner is original and has some rips in it. As with most tii’s the clock does not work and there are cracks in the dash. This car is mechanically VERY solid. Very slight oil leak from the rear of the motor. Car has been maintained at La Jolla Independent BMW service center. I did not have the time or space to list everything that’s been done to this car. I have a VERY thick stack of receipts on this vehicle. The body and interior could use some work but is acceptable for a fun daily driver. I hate to give up this car, but I just don’t use it enough and it is taking up space in the garage. Car is located in San Diego I encourage you to come and see it in person and take it for a test drive. This classic is being sold as-is. I will ship the car if buyer arranges and pays for it. $1000 PayPal deposit is due within 48 hours of auction close and the balance within 7 days of auction close. Full payment must be received prior to release of title. U.S. buyers only. Thank you for looking. On Dec-12-11 at 16:45:21 PST, seller added the following information: Here are some pictures of the engine compartment. Thanks and happy bidding.
