Vehicle Detail
IT'S HIP TO BE SQUARE!!! The Volvo 240 wagon has become something of an automotive icon, proving popular with yuppies, beach go-ers, and the intellectual sect alike. Tank-like build quality, bulletproof engines and that instantly recognizable signature boxy shape have secured its place in automotive history. Presented here for your consideration is a 1986 Volvo 240 DL Wagon. It's finished in an attractive light shade of gold, matched with a deep brown vinyl interior. The manual 4-speed transmission with push button fifth gear is a rarity and makes this wagon fun to drive. The clutch, clutch cable, alternator, valve cover gasket and upper radiator hose were replaced recently, so the 2.3 4-cyl. engine runs as it should. The brakes are well within spec, and stop this Volvo with authority. The transmission shifts properly, with no grinding or undue noise. The electronically controlled 5th gear engages with a push of a button and works as intended. Mechanically speaking, this 240 is well sorted out and doesn't require any immediate attention. The body is rust free and solid. Typical Florida sunburn is present in the paint on the hood and roof, but doesn't really detract from the overall appearance of the car. A Panasonic in-dash CD unit plays through two factory door speakers and functions properly. The AC and blower unit are currently inoperative. I haven't looked into what the problem could be, but all parts are present. The headlamps seem to have been hard wired at some point, so the lamps come on when the ignition is on and remain on until the car is switched off. The interior is very presentable and clean with wear typical of a 26 year old vehicle. Small cracks and a few missing trim pieces are the only issues with what otherwise is a remarkably clean cabin. The upholstery is in great condition and the seats are comfortable in standard Volvo fashion. The body has a few nicks and small blemishes, but is generally straight and looks very presentable. The driver side front quarter panel appears to have been replaced at some point, but the paint was matched well and isn't noticeable. The undercarriage is clean and rust free, and is equipped with an aftermarket tow hitch. The exhaust system is in excellent condition and will not require attention any time soon. The tires have decent tread, but aren't really suited for a cross country trek. Overall, this an extremely clean, nice running Volvo wagon offered at an aggressive price. I am a motivated seller and I'd like to see this 240 go to a good home. This is not a pristine example, however, it is priced accordingly and can be driven and enjoyed right away. Please do not hesitate to call me with questions or concerns. I would consider adding a "BUY IT NOW" option and ending the auction early. Compare the prices on other 240 wagons and BID TO WIN THIS ONE! I can be reached directly at 330-957-7926. Please leave a voicemail if I am unable to answer and I will return the call as soon as possible. This a 26 year old vehicle with 231,000 miles. No warranty is expressed, implied or conveyed in vehicle sale. Car is sold AS IS, where is. For obvious reasons, personal checks aren't an acceptable form of payment. I'd consider taking payment through PAY PAL, but you'll need to pay the service fee. Please don't bid unless you intend to own this Volvo. I am happy to work with you in the event that you'd need to arrange shipping for the car. However, I will cancel bids from international bidders. Thanks for your time and interest and I look forward to doing business with you in the near future. Please look closely at the photos and contact me with any information that isn't provided in the listing. Good luck! Car includes two new motor mounts, and lower radiatior hose and the rear view mirror that is no longer attached to mount. All are pictured in the photographs...On Dec-08-11 at 18:32:36 PST, seller added the following information: ***UPDATE*** In an effort to answer a few questions from bidders and potential interested parties, i'm adding the following information... I do have the original owners portfolio for the car. The owners manual is missing, however, the folder is complete other wise. There is a fairly detailed service history on the car up until about 178K. It appears to have been well maintained and cared for. Dealer stamps are present all the listed major intervals. The dash does have several small cracks but is in decent condition for the year and mileage. The glove box latch is broken, although the parts are still present. The bracket that the actual latch mechanism attaches to has seperate and splintered slightly. Getting a new glovebox door on ebay shouldn't be difficult. The clock does not work. The speedo, odometer, fuel and coolant temperature gauges as well as the warning lamps are functioning correctly. The reverse lockout on the shifter can be finicky at times. The transmission and all 5 forward gears as well as reverse work properly. The reverse lights do remain on occasionally while the gear lever is not in reverse. I haven't had this issue diagnosed, but i'd venture a guess that a sticky switch was to blame. I do have an original VOLVO key for the wagon, it does not have keyless entry or an aftermarket alarm of any kind. PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS. (330) 957-7926. This a great wagon and i'd welcome the opportunity to tell you anything you'd like to know about it before placing a bid. I do have it advertised locally, and as I mentioned before, i'd consider ending this auction early for a reasonable offer. Thanks again for your time and interest!
