Vehicle Detail
Beautiful 2005 Passat Diesel. I bought this because my 14 year old Saab 9000 was getting a little weary. But when I was finally ready to retire the Saab at 18 years old and 300k miles, the cash for clunkers thing came along. So I let Obama give me $4500 for my old Saab and I bought a Prius. This car hasn't really been my primary car since I bought it, and as a consequence, it has relatively low miles and is in fantastic shape. The only damage on the car is a few tiny rock chips on the front few inches of the hood, and most of them have been touched up. We're talking tiny, tiny chips, and there are just a few. There are ZERO door dings, because the car has always been parked away from other cars. The interior is also in fantastic shape, with no stains or damage. The only defect is a tiny puncture under the driver's butt, perhaps from a pencil or something being carried in a back pocket. The seat material is perforated anyhow, and you wouldn't notice the puncture unless I showed you where it is. I installed a Sirius satellite radio dock on an awesome bracket to the right of the console. Unfortunately, someone hit the dock with their knee and damaged it. So there is no longer a dock, but the bracket, power, audio, and antenna wires are there and hooked up and ready for use. If you didn't want to put in a new dock, you could use the wiring to power and connect an I-Pod or any other audio source. It took me about a day and a half to install the wiring properly. It's not a sloppy hack job by the losers at Best Buy or something like that. You won't have any problems with it. I have changed the oil with synthetic every 5,000 miles. VW recommended interval is 10,000 miles. So this engine will likely last a bit longer than the engines of competing cars. Also, the tranny fluid was changed about 6 weeks ago. The tires are michelins. The front is at about 15% tread and rear is at about 30% tread. As you can see from one of the pictures, average fuel economy is about 38 mpg, and that's for the about the last 2900 miles. If you drive mostly highway miles, you'll see substantially higher fuel economy. Also, summer mileage is slightly higher than winter, since winter diesel has additives. Oh, and don't worry about the license plate - I haven't been dumping crazy stuff into the gas tank. The only thing this baby has been fed is gas station diesel, mostly from the Shell station around the corner. The only problem I know of is a flaky mirror joystick. Sometimes, the mirrors have a mind of their own. I find that yelling at them has no effect on the problem, but maybe you'll have better luck. I believe that the joystick is in need of replacement.
