Vehicle Detail
1940 Plymouth Business Coupe. This is a 100% rust free survivor from Tehachapi high desert area of So. California. This car never has had a rust period nor has it ever had body work done. It's very straight, the fenders never hit. Hood, doors, trunk lid, and top are very straight. This is a very nice running and driving car that starts every time with no known issues. It can be driven on freeways due to its 9" Ford rear end with 3.00 gear ratio and gets 20 mpg. on regular pump gas. The paint is a little weak; considered a 15 footer. There's a small ding in the right door where a motorcycle fell on it; very minor. There are a few minor blemishes; not show quality, but good driver quality. It is base coat/clear coat that could be color sanded and buffed to look a lot nicer. I have some of the paint for touch-ups. The interior, including the headliner, door panels, cargo area, seats, carpet, and welting, was redone very tastefully in two-tone blue fabric. The seat doesn't sag at all; very supportive and comfortable. The trunk was done also. There are no stains, tears, rips or worn spots in the interior. The window regulators are a little stiff, but go up and down. All knobs and cranks inside are intact. The original tube radio is intact but not working. The original heater works as well as the original horn. The high/low, and tail lights work. New windshield & seals, fender seals, new brakes, new shocks, new chrome wheels (5) and new Kelly Charger tires. The original Plymouth hubcaps (4) come with the car; they're in nice condition. The engine was rebuilt. Rings, rod & main bearings, etc. very strong running 6 cylinder with surprising spunk and response. After-market gauges show it runs around 180 degrees and has 40 psi oil. Nice shifting stock 3-on-the-tree transmission with tight factory linkage; no rattles, shakes or shimmies; no vibrations. Tight steering box, good glass, front bumper is straight with nice chrome. The rear bumper needs rechromed. It is straight, but someone over-tightened the bolts and popped off the chrome around the bolt holes. The doors, hood and deck lid all line up well and open and close nicely. The two lower stainless trim pieces on the grille are missing (one from each side) as well as one of the shorter pieces under the front hood side on the right side. If you're on a budget and don't have mega bucks for a mainstream streetrod with Billit this and that, this would make a nice entry-level little cruiser. Other than wheels, tires, paint and interior, this car could be put back to original for the purists. OR for you street rod guys, it would be really nice with a 360 crate motor and automatic. I am selling this car for a friend. He's owned it for about 12 years and has driven it less than 2,000 miles in that time. When this car was purchased he drove it from Tehachapi to southern Oregon with no problems. It has always been garaged. This car is for sale locally. I maintain the right to end the auction early. I've described the car as accurately as possible. If you have any questions, please call me at 541-659-8697.
