Vehicle Detail
1974 Volks Wagon Classic Custom SoCal I purchased this AWESOME bug 2 summers ago. Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this ride. Our family has taken on a new hobby, camping! Something we can enjoy more often than we drive the bug. A little of my story, After the win on ebay, I told my husband what we now owned with a BIG SMILE...LOL. Flew to Wisconsin with my friend for a girls road trip. We drove it home to Ohio, all in one day. This is one faithful car! Not one problem at all! When I pulled in the driveway, my husband waiting anxiously for my return. He loved it!...Thank God...The first thing he noticed was how solid the door sounded when it shut....After all he should know good quality after years of restoring custom streetrods...So in the end I got the "GOOD JOB" award...You may wonder why I didn't just have my husband restore one for me? Well I thought about that too, and you know the saying "married to someone in that business, that's the last thing they want to do when they get home" besides he has two of his own projects going for quite sometime and I wanted one that didn't need anything done. Turn-key and enjoy. Last summer, we upgraded all 4 wheel cylinders, the master cylinder a breaklight switch and replaced rear brakes. I have kept this in my garage during winter storage, It has never seen the rain since the re-build from what the previous owner has told me and since I have owned it. The iginitian switch could use a little work, sometimes needs a little wiggle to turn. We did not want to replace it as we also have the original key that came with the vehicle as well as the original owner's manual. I also have a quart of touch-up paint. You will NOT be disappointed in this purchase! GREAT running Bug. Drives perfectly straight down the road! 3 Videos of the bug running, the engine and on the road http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgXn6TTQKuU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCxXXuxQApM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drCXaDRvrag The previous owner had the vehicle for 12 years during this restoration and did a wonderful, off body full restoration. Here is a little more of what was done. Brand NEW rebuilt engine (see picture of mileage that turned over while bringing my baby home) Complete Off-Body Restoration. From the wheel bearings right through the window cranks. Bead blasted pan, epoxy primed and then sprayed with black imron There is one small quarter size area, where the paint has started to bubble last summer. It is located behind the right rear window. A common place to expect this due to the filler that the Volkswagen mfg put in place inside the quarter panel to reduce noise and also as a vapor barrier from the engine compartment to the passanger compartment. This filler or foam collected condensation and run-off water (Especially on 1970+ models with the small cresent vent behind the rear windows). I have a quart of the Pepsi Blue paint to go with the bug. Suspension and Brakes were also Bead blasted, epoxy primed and sprayed with black imron Many improvements such as the adjustable beam, sway bar and all new break lines The body has been dechromed, straightened and shot with ALL Dupont products, wet sanded and polished Many custom little touches: Improved headlights, turnsignals in the mirrors, cool taillights and exact fitting bumper brackets The wheels look stock but are wider 5.5" in the front and 7.5" in the rear, wrapped in dunlop 185/60's front and 205/60's rear. Perfectly offset so everything clears and you can still make tight turns. The entire electical harness is new and all works great. I have an accurate wiring diagram with color codes as the system was installed. Interior is all new, custom built dashpanel with vintage VDO giant tach and speedo with trip reset odometer from a Porche Color coordinated racing steering wheel Scat Drag Shaft shifter Original retractable seatbelts Roller Pedal Accelerator (LOVE THIS) The gas gague is VDO and the sender is calibrated to indicate true contents. The seat frames were bead blasted and painted, then new foam was added and quality colored covers were installed. The stereo system is Pioneer supertuner and 6x9's in the rear custom deck Blue Fuzzy Dice are included The engine is the original s/n'd 1600cc unit with many upgrades. Balanced, crank, rods, pistons, flywheel and clutch Tall cam, solid rockers and big valve springs, Electronic ignition, dual carbs and a merged exhaust make it super fun to drive The sheet metal is also complete and painted to match 1.5 qt deep sump and full flow oiling to stay cool The engine and tranny mounts are all steel with a custom mid trans mount and Gene Berg bar out back Car cover included Won two trophies 1st place and 2nd place A deposit of 500 will be due at auction end and the remaining due in cash.
