1998 VW Jetta TDI diesel. Rare black on black with Wolfsburg seats. (This is not a 'Wolfsburg Edition' with sunroof and other options, just a basic Jetta with Wolfsburg seats). The car starts and runs fine, in the hot summer or the cold winter - never any starting problems. I consistantly get over 700 miles to a tank before refilling. The engine is stock with no modifications, other than a larger fuel filter from the next generation model. (Either filter can be used, but the '00 filter is about 1/3 longer, so many people choose this size) The air conditioning is exceptionally cold, and the heat is great. All guages, windows and auto door locks work properly. The central/auto door locking system was recently repaired by local maryland VW guru Mark1svc, who has done most maintenance on this car while I've had it. Recent maintenance done within the last few years: new ball joints & alignment 2 new wheel bearings door locking system was repaired, and remote antenna extended for better range tie-rod ends replaced new battery timing belt was replaced at 142000 miles Sony cd player there may be a few other minor things, but I can't think of them right now. This is a very basic car with not much to go wrong. The engine / transmission has a great reputation of being extrememly reliable. This model year is an excellent candidate for biodiesel or vegetable oil conversion, because of the larger trunk and minimal emission system. I did run a few tanks of bio diesel a couple of years back because a drum of it was given to me. The car started and ran great on it but I eventually had to replace the fuel filter and have the tank and lines flushed/cleaned. This is a usual problem of switching over to B100 and I would feel fine doing it now, now that everything has been cleaned. The check engine light is not currently on, but it usually comes on during the cold weather. The code is something about the glow plug circuit and/or mass airflow voltage. The glow plugs work fine, and the car always starts perfectly all winter long. My mechanic suggested replacing the glow plug wiring harness at a future time, but since it hasn't affected starting, it's been a very low priority and hasn't been done. The car always gets around 45-50 miles per gallon. There are several paint chips and small dents and one of the front bumper blanks is missing. The car could use a paint job and the tires need to be replaced. They work fine for now, but the tread is worn low and their replacement is due. The car is still registered and being driven, so the mileage will change. I can email any pictures if requested and I'll try to answer any questions. The car will come with whatever maintenance paperwork I have, a Haynes repair manual, the owners manual and the original window sticker (showing EPA mileage as 42 city/ 49 hwy), 2 working remotes and 3 keys.
