Vehicle Detail
1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 4-Door We are re-listing this car for a friend with a lower buy-it-now price and we are adding a reserve that is lower than the previous opening bid. This is a numbers matching, California Car (built in Oakland, sold in Glendale and retired in Northern California) with original black plates and original title. Two Owners, been in the same family since 1960. This is an unmolested extremely straight car. The car was driven to Nor Cal 18 years ago, an inexpensive paint job (same color as original) was done and the car sat in a barn since that time. We cannot find any rust anywhere, except surface rust in the trunk and floor area, no bondo, no body repairs of any sort that we can find. Looking at the wear on the steering wheel and interior we suspect the odometer has rolled over to the 45,707 on it today. We are selling this car for the owner who is a friend of the family. We disconnected the fuel line from the carburetor, installed a new battery and got the engine to fire but did not try to get it running or roadworthy. The fuel tank has old fuel but flows (can be drained, cleaned and should be ok), the brakes will have to be gone through (new master cylinder, wheel cylinders and clean or replace the lines). Do that, and this car is ready to drive. The interior is tired and needs to be updated but we pulled the carpets and seats, again no rust other than surface rust, everything looks great and with new seat covers/door panels it will look like new. VIN: C57O170148 (C=Bel Air, 57=1957, O=Oakland where the car was produced and then the 7 digit production # of car) Firewall plate: Style: 57-1019D (1957 4-Door Sedan) Body: 011629 (production number of body) Trim: 669 (black and red interior) Paint: 807D (2-tone Bel Air India Ivory Top / Black Onyx Bottom) Additional details: 1. 6-cylinder engine, with a 1-bbl carburetor 2. 3-speed manual transmission 3. Manual Steering 4. Manual brakes 5. 14 inch wheels unique to the 57 with nubs on wheel to hold the wheel covers 6. New Battery but all terminals and connections need to be cleaned 7. New radio antenna (in package in trunk) 8. Paint job is fair and with some light color sanding and a good buff it should look very nice for a driver. 9. Radiator was replaced with a new 4-core radiator just before storage and looks like new. 10. Hoses for heater missing, may indicate the core leaks but unsure, will need to be checked before reconnecting. Recommend replacing all hoses and belts. 11. The only missing pieces appears to be all four door gaskets and the dome light cover. 12. The stainless trim pieces are in great shape, the hood chrome on top of grill is dinged, and the name on the trunk was mounted with screws vs. cast post. 13. The glass looks good all around. 14. New trunk weather-stripping (in package in trunk). 15. All four doors need new weather-stripping purchased and installed. 16. A couple of small dings here and there but nothing significant (see pictures). 17. The car had a trailer hitch (hole in center of rear bumper) 18. Door, hood, trunk and fender gaps look great another indicator the car has not had any damage. 19. The dash is original and unmolested after 54 years, a rarity. 20. Battery Tray is in need of replacement, acid ate thru a lot of metal. We tried to include pictures for all areas of the car to give a prospective buyer the best opportunity to see how nice this car is. Yes it is worn, but extremely straight and solid. We will provide additional pictures if there is something you wish to see. We invite anyone to come and inspect the car before buying. The car is located in Benicia, CA 94510 (33 miles north-east of San Francisco) and I can be reached at 707-246-2686 to coordinate or answer questions. This is the right car for the young family wanting to cruize to a rod event or the grandparents wanting to show the grandkids what it was like in the 50s with one of the most popular cars of the era. This car is worth the Buy It Now price but to get everyone interested into the game we are offering an opening bid of $500 with a nominal reserve to protect the seller.
