Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a very nice mini cooper updated to 1995 specs. The title is clear and i have a valid registration and pink slip in hand. this model was assembled in england and exported to japan. then imported to the US in parts to be used as a donor for a restoration by professionals. it has a 1.3 liter spi fuel injected motor, automatic transmission, and air conditioning that blows nice and cold. charged with R-134a. it has power disk brakes in front and drums in rear. the mileage listed is calculated from kilometers. the speedo is metric and reads kilos. it reads 53557 kilometers. when I obtained it the car had been sitting for a while. I replaced the radiator, water pump, belts, battery, alternator (70amp), and oil pressure cutout switch, along with a tune up. I've driven it 10,000 miles and havent had a single problem since! and what a joy to drive! everywhere you go in this car all eyes are on it. be prepared to be honked at, waved at, have your picture taken while in motion, and talk to people darn near everywhere you park. this car is definately an attention getter. it can get anywhere between 32 and 40mpg depending on how you drive and where you drive. i calculated that total miles at fill up many times. i usually get about 35-38mpg. it handles like it's on rails and could darn near turn around in your garage. it is a right hand drive. people ask me if this is akward and i always tell them that the car is so small you hardly notice you're on the right at all. after i drove it around for about a half hour i got totally used to it. people really dig seeing you driving on that side for some reason. this car is a driver and can be driven anywhere with confidence. NO RUST. No signs of being repainted or having any previous bodywork. i regularly use it to commute to work 75 miles each way. Unfortunately for the car, I have had 3 kids in the last four years. this means i'm working a lot more and have less time and money for toys. i am now selling off my many toys. I have a boring prius to commute in and all the kids fit in it. they dont all fit in this one, so it has to go. i only hope that my boys dont see it leave cause there'll be a lot of tears. they really love this car. now for the defects. they are all minor things and i have made every effort to list them ALL. i tried to catch them all in the pictures but they just dont want to all turn up. the hood is oxidized in the center. i have buffed it with everything they make at different times and it looks better for a while and then goes back to the way it was. i just live with it. If you cant live with it, remove the hood and take it to a paint shop. the hood unbolts and bolts back on with no adjustment necessary. easy to do. The rest of the paint job is nice, but not perfect. I wouldnt even consider repainting the whole car. one of the stripes has a tear in it and will probably start to peel. the stripes are stick on and can be removed and replaced easily. a hair dryer heats them up and the old peel off, and the new stick on. there is a small ding in the front above the bumper. it's hardly noticeable. there is a small dent in the rear bumper along with a dent above the rear bumper. not big but i want to disclose it. i have a new bumper sitting in the box and it will go with the car. there is some sort of a marker light in the same spot and the lens is broken. all three of these defects are one on top of the other. a previous owner probably backed into a parking barrier. minor stuff. each wheel has a plastic moulding above it. three of them are cracked. they stay and arent hanging or anything like that. they're availabe cheap. or you could use two sided tape to patch the problem. new ones are available and not expensive. most parts for this car arent expensive by the way. the headliner has a tear on the driver's side above the visor and both visors sag. there is at least one, maybe two small tears in the rear seat upholstery at the top where the sun contacts it. minor. today i noticed about a five inch scratch inside the windshield on the driver's side. not a crack. just a scratch. the turn signal lever switch is broken but works and cancels fine. new ones are available for about $120.00 from mini mania. i never bothered cause it works fine the way it is. the radio doesnt pick up any stations. it only tunes in the frequencies used in japan which are completely different. i just use a cassete adapter for my mp3 and never messed with it. I just noticed the antenna is missing. i've tried to be as thourough as possible but may have missed something. the transmission shifts very firmly between 2nd and 3rd gear. i have been told on message boards and by other owners this is just how they are and it's normal. the car is in great shape but you must remember it isnt new. all the parts for this car are available from mini mania and several other sources. there's nothing you cant get for this car. you can buy a few parts and make it perfect, or drive it as is and enjoy it. Please no low ball offers. I am financially solvent and not interested in giving the car away. I'm dealing with a bad experience right now with another auction. please dont bid for your friend unless he puts the money in your hand first. you are responsible for that bid. if he flakes you and I are in a bad place. dont bid unless you are able to pay. it seems a silly thing to say, but it happens. if you are waiting for a settlement check, or an inheritance, or whatever, dont bid until it's deposited and cleared. i'm not interested in waiting while you try to get your affairs in order. things have a way of not working out when that happens. please dont bid if you cant pick up the car. please dont ask me to hold it for several weeks or months while you try to figure something out. only bid if you have the funds available and the means to get the car. it's better for all of us. feel free to ask me any questions you like. i may sell the car locally and have the right to end the auction early if it happens. I have seen many cars like this sell for more than double the opening bid. this could be a great buy for somebody. buyer is responsible for shipping and fees. i will assist your shipper however i can. I am in Cherry Valley, CA 20 miles east of san bernardino, ca off of I-10. Zip code 92223. use your mapquest or google to figure out how far i am from you and get an idea of travel time. good luck!!!!
