Vehicle Detail

This auction is for this 1966 Volkswagen Beetle Classic. It is metallic mint green in color. This car is not ready to be a daily driver and needs some mechanical fixes. I will explain all of the pro's and con's and you can decide for yourself. Pros: Good eye appeal from a distance. Rebuilt engine, serial begins with H. Rebuilt carbureator. New wiring and hoses. New master and wheel cylinders. Body only needs mild restoration (one ding and a little surface rust and bubbling). Floor pans are good in front. Cons: Needs to be jumped off to drive ( battery doesn't want to hold charge . it may be battery or alternator ?), When you get going about 40 miles an hour the car begins to sake or wobble. Your initial reaction is to just slow down and get off the road (then it stops) This just started. A couple of the tires may beginning to get dry rotted. Valves could use adjusting. Brakes have to be pumped before driving (need bleeding). Speedometer wavers in about a 10 mph range of the speed you are traveling. Hood and trunk do not latch well. Dash has been reworked with toggle switches. Has lights, wipers, radio (in place of glove compartment). Head liner has age spots. No back seat, has wooded compartment for access to battery. Still has mounts for seat. Door panels and backseat area are indoor/outdoor carpet. Interior is very average. Nothing special. Backseat area floor creaking . May need pans at some point. Someone can easily take this car and make some mechancial adjustments and be used for daily drive (but it does need tweeking). It also could be used for restoration. To bring it all the way back it could take a few thousand. Just depends on what you want to do. Buyer to pay 500.00 deposit within 24 hours of auction close. Remainder due within seven days. Buyer responsible for pickup. On Oct-16-11 at 16:26:16 PDT, seller added the following information: I am just updating the listing trying to give the most information possible. The heater channels in the battery area are there and clean. However, the plastic hoses that run from the engine area to the to the inside of the car are not. They look like what are on a vaccum and are about 12-18 inches long. Also, the shifter is one of those aftermarket "T" type performance shifters. The idle is excellent. Do not need to hit gas to start. Has been converted to 12 volt. I am unsure whether it is a original engine. The "H" tells me that it looks like 67-68? Or it could be a late 66 ? The trunk in front latch doesn't work well. I purchased the latch receiver and you can have that along with various other parts. Until recently, you could drive it right up the road and go as fast as you want and straight. The other day I took it out and I get going about 40 and it starts wobbling . This could be tires out of balance or it could be a suspension related thing? I am not a mechanic. If I was I would fix her up. I do not have time, seriously. Any other questions, I will give a shot at answering. Mechanically speaking, the things that need to be addressed are: brake bleeding battery, alternator, or generator/alternator possible new tires (tread is good but the outside walls have a little cracking on two) 185 65 R15 new wobbling ? I am guessing a few hundred ( $300-$500) If looking at restoration I would say all of the above plus: Dent removal front left with new paint. Reworking of the interior (most everything) dash parts, knobs, seats, carpet, head liner, vinyl door panels.` If you have skills painting you could probably get her done fairly economically. The interior could cost $1500. On Oct-17-11 at 21:30:51 PDT, seller added the following information: VIN # 116879224. It matches in both places on the vehicle. The two pictures of surface rust are on the same fender as the ding. This is also where the mild amount of bubbling is. For clarification, it is the front left fender. The other rust is at the base of the engine lid, and at the top of the engine lid where it has rubbed. In one of the pictures, you see a box of parts. They go with the vehicle to the buyer. I have added pictures of the parts and books. Speedometer gauge is a couple years after 66. It is the one that has the gas, speed, oil, brights, turn signal. Instead of the square gas gauge to the right, it has an aftermarket RPM gauge. Wipers only go at one speed after you hit the toggle switch. It isn't too too fast. May be tough in the rain?
