Only 35 Centenarys will be made, each fitted with exclusive trim and equipment. The Phantoms stately exterior is coated in a special Curzon paint scheme, the same finish as used on the 100 EX concept vehicle. The charcoal-blue body is bisected by a single crimson pinstripe that follows the beltline for the length of the car, color-matched to a unique crimson and chrome R-R badge. 21" chrome wheels, a polished aluminum grille, and the Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament crafted from solid sterling silver contrast the Phantoms dark birthday suit. Incidentally, the expensive styling statement can be lowered and hidden out of harms reach by pressing a dash-mounted button. Finally, to distinguish the Centenary edition from regular Phantoms, a polished cast vehicle plate is situated on the inside of the B-pillar, featuring the cars exclusive build number.
Other accents exclusive to the Centenary Phantom include historic badging and trim. Around the exterior of the car, the latest rendition of the Rolls-Royce company logo has been replaced in favor of one reminiscent of the red and chrome badges first featured on cars between 1904 and 1930. The kick plates of each door feature a special plaque bearing the names of the automakers storied creators, Charles Rolls and Henry Royce, as well as the date "May 4th, 1904" - a reminder to anyone who climbs aboard that the car being entered is made by one of the worlds finest and oldest coachbuilders.
Meanwhile, the interior features special trim consisting of Dark Curzon-colored leather seats and doors and gray suede roofliner, in total using eighteen hides per car, plus mahogany wood on the lower dashboard, doors and rear picnic tables, featuring the R-R logo inlayed in silver. The silver accents are complimented by brushed aluminum on the upper dash and chrome door handles.
A special analog clock displays a band of "spun" Dark Curzon anodized metal surrounding an illuminated glass face. The clock is set into a turned-aluminum housing with a beveled lens. A similar design theme is featured in each circular gauge, highlighted by the speedometer and tachometer, which also feature hand-finished "metal figures and chaplets," according to the automakers website. The result is one of the most intoxicating automotive interiors ever created, as handsome as anything the brand previously built in its early years while offering features and build quality that could only be accomplished via modern technologies and manufacturing methods.
The Centenary Phantom makes use of the Phantoms stock BMW-sourced powertrain, which is no bad thing. Its a 453-hp 6.7-liter, 48-valve, DOHC V12 delivering 551 lb-ft of torque, allowing 5.8 second sprints to 60 mph and a top speed limited to 150 mph. Despite its sophisticated 6-speed transmission regular Phantoms arent exactly environmentally friendly, gulping gasoline at a gluttonous rate - city driving will yield 10 mpg while time on the highway is much better at 21 mpg. Truly, at even the Phantoms base $370,000 price, cost wouldnt enter the fuel economy equation, only environmental concerns.
And whats the price of the new Centenary edition? If it matters, this isnt the car for you. Celebratory vehicles such as the Centenary Phantom are priceless to collectors and historians alike, and with 100 years backing this very vehicle a blank check should do the job.
