Vehicle Detail

I am listing this beautiful 1968 Oldsmobile 98 Convertible for my uncle. I would say the car is in at least #4 condition, possibly #3, as it does need some work but runs and drives well. The car has 97,273 miles on it, and I believe them to be original mileage. My uncle purchased this car several years ago as a summer car, in the hopes of restoring it. He drove it for a summer, but unfortunately, he hasn't had the time to devote to it and now would like someone else to have the opportunity who will appreciate the car for it's unusual features. The car has been stored indoors since my uncle purchased it. History of the car: What I know is the story my uncle was told when he purchased the car. It was originally owned by the Michigan State Beauty Queen in 1968. The car was purchased by my uncle a few years ago in Wisconsin, so it's safe to say the car probably spent most, if not all, of it's life in the northern snow belt. While the car was not driven excessively for it's age, the undercarriage requires some repair as some of the floor panels are rusted through. Unfortunately, I do not have pictures of that. We believe the car was repainted at least once in it's life, the decklid was replaced with one from a 1967 Olds 98, and possibly some repair was done to the rocker panels. Currently, there are no major dents or dings and the body is presentable. The Wire Wheel Covers (pictured) are not original and we do not have the originals. What is interesting about this car is that it has most every option available in 1968: Here is a partial list: Power Windows (All windows work except for passenger front.) Power Vent Windows (Work) Power Door Locks (Don't work) Power Seat (Works) Cornering Lamps (Work) Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column (Works) Comfortron Climate Control (Doesn't work) Cruise Control (Doesn't work) Convertible Top (Works - needs a little help sometimes and will need replacement/adjustment to be watertight.) AM/FM Radio is not original (looks like it came from a '69 or '70) and does not work. Power Antenna (Works) Headrests Power Steering and Brakes (standard equipment - both working) Not sure if it's got the front disc brakes, which was an option in '68. The car has the original 455 engine which starts, runs and drives well. There is a little lifter noise but nothing remarkable for a car of it's age/mileage. We have driven it about 50 miles or so without worry, but that was a few years ago and haven't had it on the road since, so you would probably want to have it trailered any distance. This car would be great if it was fixed up and all the options were working. The perfect winter project! The interior requires new vinyl upholstery on the seats as there is cracking on the driver's side. The lower sections of the door panels, as well as the carpet, need replacement. Interior can be found at SMS Auto Fabrics (www.smsautofabrics.com.) Additionally, the trunk has new carpet and there is a new battery. The bumpers are in good shape with no visible rust. Winning bidder gets a bonus of the original 1968 Color/Upholstery Catalog, Comfortron Repair Manual, as well as the 1968 Shop Manual and some spare parts. This is not an exhaustive description of the condition of the car, and the car does require a good deal of work. As the description of the condition is subjective, and all vehicles have some degree of wear, seller will not be held liable for any omissions or errors in the description. Car is being sold "AS IS/WHERE IS" and no guarantees are written or implied. Payment due within 48 hours of auction close. All sales final. Please contact me with any questions you may have about the vehicle, and I will try and answer them to the best of my ability.
