Vehicle Detail

Unrestored example! Here's a Bugeye named Dirk, who has sat idle in a barn since about 1977. Just 17 years old when parked, and showing about 55k miles- could that be actual mileage? Hard to tell of course, but this is a cool car to restore, with some interesting original pieces. The seats for example are the original blue with iris blue piping. The door liners appear to be the original blue liners that would have been shipped with the car from the factory. Rare cool stuff! The engine is a 948 with a smooth case transmission. Looks to be the original engine, but can't tell, engine plaque is missing, as is the case with so many of these cars. Engine is free and turns, but has not run in more than 30 years so assume a complete rebuild will be needed. The body is pretty good compared to other Bugeye projects. The nose is good, without many dents and without signs of being bashed and bondoed. The valence under the nose is quite solid. The floor foot wells show no sign of holes. A pilars are impressive for a Bugeye--so are the sides of the car and the trunk floor! There is a rust hole in the driver's floor pan next to the seat bottom and behind the seat, as shown in the photo. You will need to weld in patches in this section of the car. The floor has also rusted outboard of the spring mount on the driver's side. You'll need to remove the leaf spring and patch this area, which is not difficult, and something we have done on many of these cars. The passenger side looks pretty good underneath as shown in the pictures. The engine compartment is dirty but unmolested, except for a non stock heater valve. All the parts are readily available to restore, as are floor pans and any sheet metal patches. This is a project car and will require a total rebuild. Windshield glass is missing. Cost is about $180, and we have them in stock, if needed. Seat base pans are also missing. These are usually rusty on project cars, and were probably discarded some time ago. All seat parts are readily available. Rear bumper parts, original jack and original top and tonneau are all in the box on the passenger floor ready for delivery. Top and tonneau are aged and likely rubbish but you can recycle the original top bars, which are hard to find, on a new top. When done, you will have a great Bugeye, which likely will look like our Colin, also pictured. This auction is for one Bugeye only, the one that doesn't run or drive. Rolls nicely though.
