Vehicle Detail
Offered by Carbuffs, Inc. of Concord, Ca. 1969 Pontiac Trans Am Please click on image for a larger view "Matching #'s!" BODY: What appears to be original Trans Am fenders have been metal finished and are excellent (I see no signs of Firebird emblem holes or repairs to holes). Original steel hood has been metal finished and is excellent including a very clean and pit free underside. One scoop is missing. Doors are useable with no visible rust or bad repairs. Drivers side rear quarter has been hit in the back corner and at some time in its life had a front portion of a quarter panel sectioned in from the door jamb to the drip rail termination point. There is also some rust in the quarter that seems to be just in the lip section. The passenger quarter has some dents in the back that are repairable as well as a small amount of rust forward of the wheel. The tail panel seems fine. The Pontiac letter holes have been bondoed over but is an easy fix. The front cowl area is all clean and does have the factory stamped hidden vin that matches the cars vin. I see no rust where the dash meets the windshield. The dash vin tag is original and undisturbed. The rear window has some repairable rust as seen in the pics. Roof is clean. Original upper and lower ram air pans included. UNDERCARRIAGE: The undercarriage was completely stripped by the owner 13 years ago and painted gloss black. The floorpans are exceptionally clean and straight and show no signs of repairs or damage. The rear frame rails are perfect. The trunks extensions are in good useable shape. The trunk pan underneath is perfect. The front subframe was removed, checked for true and powder coated gloss black. Very clean underneath. TRUNK: The trunk floor. is solid with some pitting. I do not see any rust through anywhere. The trunk lid is solid. The spoiler is original. ENGINE: Original to the car matching #'s engine. Heads are original #48's. The intake on the car is an original aluminum HO unit but the original is included. The carb appears to be from a full size HO manual trans car (see #'s in pics). The distributor and alternator are original. The engine has been rebuilt and is spotless inside. It has been sitting on a stand in the owners garage for approx. 5 years so I would recommend a visual inpection inside. TRANSMISSION: Original to the car matching #'s transmission. Still dirty and unopened. Original date coded Hurst shifter unit. EXHAUST: Original long branch exhaust manifolds. No other exhaust parts included. FRONT SUSPENSION: Stock front suspension that was powdercoated gloss black. REAR SUSPENSION: Corporate rear that the owner swears is the original. The only thing is that it is a YH code which is correct for an open 3:55 and this car came with a posi 3:55 that would have been coded ZH. Who knows? The rear was powdercoated with all of the innards rebuilt including the posi unit. He did add disc brakes to the rear but the installation was never completed. Original rear drum brakes are not included. BRAKES: Original front discs with rear disc installation started. Appears to be original power brake booster and master cylinder. INTERIOR: Interior appears to be completely original and unmolested. Uncut dash still houses the original tach, gauges and AM radio. All items worked when the car was parked. Very nice original headliner. Appears to be original carpet. Windows all work. Rear window is included but currently not installed. WHEELS/TIRES: The car originally came with steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps. In 1979 the car was taken to the Pontiac dealer in Los Angeles and had Rally II wheels installed. They appear to be 14x6 wheels. I have the receipt for the wheels and installation. LOOSE PARTS: I am trying to be as thorough as possible but it gets interesting when many loose parts are involved. There are pics of many of the included parts but there are other parts not photographed including; driveshaft, wipers, rear window trim, jack base, calipers, clutch, pressure plate & flywheel, Z-bar (bell crank), clutch rod, 2 upper ram air baffles?, a bucket of bolts and small misc. OVERALL CONDITION: Good restorable base that will not send you on a worldwide search for the hard parts. These cars are getting very hard to find this complete. They are usually either rust buckets or fully restored. Here is a great opportunity for a person with a little mechanical inclination to get one of these rare cars and fix it up him or her self and not lose $20k if they needed to get rid of it. SUMMARY: This car was bought by the current owner to replace a 69 Trans Am he had years ago and let get away. He drove the car home in 1998 and began the disassembly. He had the engine rebuilt approx 5 years ago and the front clip repaired. He also had many of the front end parts powdercoated. Unfortunately, a change in marital status and a move slowed his enthusiasm for the project. He is now ready to cash out and get the car to someone who will do it justice. He is not looking for trades or payments, just a simple quick transaction. He got the car bolted together and the engine and trans dropped in for transport. Nothing is hooked up for proper function. The car does not stop as it has no brakes but it does steer. If you have any questions please call me at 925-899-2648. Please remember I am on Pacific Standard Time.
