Vehicle Detail
I am re-listing this car in the hope that if you are interested that you will make an offer and save me a trip to Hershey This is a really nice car that need someone with the time to track down new tailight housings and some replacement chrome to match the bodywork, paint and interior to be a real head turner. I am out of time and hope to sell one or both of my Polara Convertibles this week and avoid a trip to Hershey. If you have been looking at the car and considering purchase--do it now. I will be accepting offers of at least $1000 less than I will be willing to take at Hershey---I really cannot spare several days away from work to sell cars. This car turned out better than I expected when it first arrived. Rusted panels were cut out and new steel welded in. The trunk floor and right rear floor were replaced with new panels. The body was smoothed and painted with urethane primer and then painted in the correct turquoise and white urethane base coat- clear coat. The interior was replaced with new Legendary covers for the front and rear seats. The door and side panels are original since Legendary does not make a replacement for the 63 model. The rear panels over the top cylinders were covered with matching vinyl from Legendary and new Legendary carpets installed . The floors were coated with black rust preventive paint (like POR 15) before carpet installation.. The boot came with the car and cleaned up well . The interior door thresholds should be replaced but I have been unable to locate good used pieces and new replacements - while available- are expensive. The convertible top and well liner are new. The convertible lines were replaced with new units (Hydro-Electric) and the power top operates well. We installed new weather stripping on the top after repainting the top frame and a new trunk gasket was installed. The engine was replaced before I purchased the car and the serial numbers indicate that it is a 383 from 1969. The engine runs quiets and does not smoke or drip oil and has surprising power. The engine is equipped with a newly rebuilt Carter 2 barrel carb and has single exhaust. I replaced the water pump and fuel pump, installed new plug wires and plugs. All radiator and heater hoses have been replaced. The transmission is a TorqueFlite with push button. The trans was professionally rebuilt and shifts fine and operates quietly. The front brakes and wheel cylinders were replaced and a new master cylinder installed. The car handles well and stops smoothly and straight. The tires have been replaced with new 205-75 R radial whitewalls on factory rims with correct hubcaps. The front bumper is usable but less than perfect and looked better before the car had new paint. The rear bumper shown on the images has been replaced with a good used bumper after the photos were taken. It is not perfect but has very nice chrome and straight. Re-chromed bumpers are readily availble from multiple sources but run between $390 and $535 each. I am sure that there is someone out there with a decent pair in the salvage yard--I am just out of time and tired of looking. The tailight housings and the lower chrome quarter panel moldings are usable but could/should replaced or re-plated. Again, I am sure that someone has a good set but they have not showed up. I continue to look and if anything shows up this week it will be included /installed. The side and fender trim is decent but the front fender V chrome moldings could use a plating job, as could the hood and trunk Dodge medallions and outside door handles. All are usable but if I were keeping the car, I would look for replacements or have them chromed..The inside windshield trim could also use a chrome bath---I thought about painting it but didn't want to ruin a difficult to find part in case someone is a purist. The plastic chrome around the speedometer has discolored- I have one ordered from Dr.G and it will be installed or given to the new owner. I also ordered a new trunk mat that will go with the car. The car has just completed state safety inspection and is registered and inspected through September 2012. I had the wiper motor replaced and had the front lower ball joints and tailpipe replaced since they were marginal. The car is now ready for the road and I would not hesitate to drive it to Hershey or........ I just got the car back from the audio installer and had a 200 watt Kenwood AM-FM/CD/MP3 dash unit installed with dual speakers to replace the obsolete radio that came with the car (original AM radio was long gone)---it sounds great. I have put around 100 miles on the car since it was registered. It is quiet and performs well---much better with the rebuilt carb-- and it actually draws more favorable comments and thumbs up than my 64 Polara--probably because of the front fender design and the turquoise and white color combination. I prefer the black car but admit that the 63 looks sportier. This is NOT a show car, but it is a nice driver that could be a lot nicer with a few pieces of chrome replaced. For the asking price you are getting a good driving car for the cost of the new interior, top, tires, transmission and paint. The labor and underlying car is free. This is a car that is nearly 50 years old and is offered "AS IS" and without warranty except that the description and pictures are accurate. The car has a clear title and any interested bidder is encouraged call to arrange a personal or professional inspection. The car is being offered for sale locally and this auction may be stopped at any time. If not sold this week it will be at the Hershey Car Corral(weather permitting) on October 5, 2011. If any bidder has questions about the car, I am available to answer questions by telephone during evening hours (after 6 P.M.-EDT) at (814) 248-9140.My name is Russell---or by email. to ewrecks@atlanticbb.net The Sucessful bidder must pay a $500 downpayment by PayPAL within 48 hours of auction close. Final Payment must be made in Cash, wire transfer or by Certified Funds within 7 Days of auction close. No transfer of title or removal of the car from Seller's location shall occur until final clearance of any funding.. Buyer shall be exclusively responsible for any cost associated with inspection and transport of the vehicle. IF YOU WANT A NEARLY PERFECT 1964 POLARA CONVERTIBLE ---SEE MY OTHER AUCTION. IF YOU WANT A DECENT CAR FOR HALF THE MONEY--BUY THIS CAR!!
