Vehicle Detail

I've had this car for a couple years now, but it's time for all my vehicles to go. I will disclose everything that I know. I want you to read that again; I will disclose EVERYTHING that I know. When you're shopping for used vehicles you have to understand that EVERY car has issues, be it small or large, they're there. If you see an ad like this where it may appear like I'm nit-picking and pointing out little things, it's because I am not hiding anything. When you see an ad where they don't mention anything, or just a couple obvious things, then they're probably hiding something. A 1998 is not going to have only "dirty carpet, but car is perfect". I am going to tell you everything I know so that you're happy because you know exactly what you're getting, I'm happy because I keep my 100% feedback, and I have a clear conscious. That being said: This Corolla has been a great little car for me to commute back and forth from the San Francisco bay area to Los Angeles. I no longer make the trip anymore, so I no longer need this car anymore. On average, it gets about 32 MPG on my trips to LA, but I noticed if I drive 65 with the windows up, and AC off, I can get up to 38 MPG. This is a fantastic commute vehicle. When I bought the car a couple years ago I had paperwork from the previous owner showing an engine rebuilt at 94,xxx miles, which explains why the car definitely doesn't run like it has 220,XXX miles. Strong engine, strong transmission, cold AC and all the toys (power windows, locks, cruise control, good stereo), make this a great buy for someone who can use it. Of course it's not perfect, so here's what's wrong; the temperature gauge goes from cold to max level, now obviously the car's not overheating, but the gauge says it. This can be easily fixed by someone who can replace the sensor. I know the car's not overheating so I never had it fixed. The roof paint is faded, see the pictures, again, doesn't affect the mechanics so I never got it fixed. The covers to the front side markers and one of the rear taillights is missing/cracked (more cosmetic stuff), the headliner is falling down, so in the rear you can see push pins I used to put it back up. I think the driver side rear door lock is going out because every once in a while when I unlock the doors it will decide not to unlock. The seats are good with the exception of a tear in the rear corner in the passenger side rear. The little cover for the fuse box is missing, plus the carpet is dirty, I tried shampooing it, but I have no idea why the previous owner never wiped their feet. The carpet doesn't smell or anything so I just put some Simpsons floor mats in and drove (trust me, ride in a car 1600 miles a month you don't want smelly carpet so that was important to me). There are a couple dings and you can see in the pictures the paint is cracked on the rear bumper from the previous owner. You can see from the dings and rear bumper paint that it has made contact with stuff, but it's clearly nothing big. The car has a clean and clear title, but my guess is the previous owner wasn't the best driver on the planet, and for me it was a high MPG commute car so as long as it was clean, and ran great, I was happy. Here's the one that actually should get fixed; it needs shocks, it's not to the point of bouncing down the street, but when you hit a big bump you bottom out. If you look at the list of things wrong, you'll see that it's mostly cosmetic, or not important (except the shocks), this is because a car that I'm driving roughly 400 miles each way, twice a month, I need it to run GREAT, but some faded paint it not high priority. Oh yeah, and there's no reserve! SummaryThe good: Great gas milageStrong EngineStrong TransmissionPower WindowsPower LocksCruise ControlAir ConditioningPasses SmogComfortable ride The bad (See pictures):Paint is faded on the roofHeadliner is falling down so I have it held with thumb tacksVarious dings and cracked paint on rear bumperTemperature gauge always at max temp, (not from overheating, just from faulty gauge or sensor)Small Tear on rear seat in the cornerDirty carpetShocks GREAT NEWS:If you're looking at this ad, then you're on the best resource for parts on the planet. Do a search for the things listed as "bad", everything you need is here, and CHEAP. I don't want to advertise for a specific seller but here are a couple of search examples to show you how cheap these little Toyotas are to get parts for, just click the links to show the search:Front Turn signals linkSide markers are $12 and up brand new Shocks linkShocks are $30 and up brand new Isn't eBay great! I would really like it if you want to came out to see the car in person, and take it for a test drive. That way you can get a better idea of how great a deal this is. eBay automatically selects it to have a power roof, but this car doesn't have a sun roof at all. I apologize if that's misleading, but it's not my fault eBay doesn't allow me to change it. For some reason, I can change everything EXCEPT that.
