Vehicle Detail
1973 is the first, and likely the best year of the Omega. Portions of this description taken from Wikipedia. The Omega was one of 2 more X-body Chevrolet Nova clones introduced in 1973. Naturally it shared the Nova's body and many of its mechanicals, but it had its own unique nose and tail, and, being an Oldsmobile, it had a little fancier trim than the Nova. It even borrowed the Nova's dashboard, but Olds added woodgrain trim to it for a more upscale look. The front grille sported Oldsmobile's trademark split "waterfall" grille design, round headlights set into square recesses, and parking lights directly below in the bumper. Body styles mirrored that of the Nova, this one is a 3-door hatchback (camping anyone?). The lone V8 option was Oldsmobile's 5.7L (350 cid) "Rocket" V8, this one has the 3-speed automatic. This V8 model has a 4-barrel carburetor. The factory painted "small-blocks" gold. The Rocket 350 was entirely different from the other GM divisions' 350's. It used a 4.057 in (103.0 mm) bore and Oldsmobile small-block standard 3.385 in (86.0 mm) stroke for 350 cu in (5.7 L). 1968-1974 350s were painted gold. The "Rocket" name disappeared from the air cleaner decal in 1975, the same year that the catalytic converter was added to the emission control systems. No worries about catalytic converters on this Omega, run the exhaust however you want and remain "legal." The early Oldsmobile 350s made from 1968-1976 are more desirable engines with heavy castings, beefier crankshafts, and better flowing heads. So why am I selling? Well, I have fun building and restoring all things automotive, and this car came to me as it is now. It looks good, runs good, doesn't need much -- and I want to move on to my next project. I want to sell it to start on my next toy. Its next stage in life is up to the buyer. Remain a stock sleeper – restomod -- or full drag car? This one is a blank canvas for your ideas. The interior of this car is amazing for its age. It looks almost new, no major scratches, scuffs, or even wear. The worst is a tear on the driver's seat bolster, which has been "repaired" with tape, but even it has to be pointed out. The dash has a cover, but all the cover does is hide a beautiful, scratch free dash. The mileage is listed in the ad as 144444, the car does not have a space for the one to indicate over 100,000 miles. I suspect the car has 14X,XXX -- mileage listed is approx. Let the videos speak for the mileage! What is wrong with the car? It does have some faults. The passenger rear fender is dented, as shown in the videos; it was when I got it. The gas gauge works intermittently; I just use the trip odometer and fill accordingly. The paint is okay, but does have scratches here and there. I did not work on the body or paint because the next owner may want a different color or whole new look. And original paint (I think its original -- it certainly looks the part) on a 38 year old car is rare. Its biggest mechanical flaw is an exhaust leak, it needs new exhaust gaskets -- if I were keeping the car I would install headers, the exhaust leak (which is obvious in the videos, isn't as bad in person. Also, the windshield has a significant crack, the wipers stop in the up position, and the wiper switch flops around. If you miss this one, there something you should know about Classics in general. All cars are subject to rust, and 35+ year old cars should be examined closely. This car is the most rust free Omega I have seen, the pictures / videos speak for themselves, and if you need more pictures, please let me know, I have more I can email to interested bidders. Interested parties are welcome to view, inspect, or test ride the car by contacting me through eBay and scheduling a time. Due to the value of this car, test drives will not happen - sorry.
