Vehicle Detail

1984 VW Rabbit 2 Door Sedan/Tow Car Diesel 4 Speed w/ AC 1984 VW RABBIT 2 DOOR SEDAN/TOW CARDiesel rabbit L sedan 4 speed air conditioned In 2005 I rescued this little rabbit from a junk yard because it was rust free, the original paint was still in great condition and I needed a light weight tow car for my motor home. I had a VW specialist rebuild the engine block and I put on a rebuilt head, new gasket and new 12 mm head bolts. I also replaced all belts, hoses engine mounts, injectors, glow plugs and many other non-engine parts including a new radiator and windshield. Since then I have used it as a work car and have towed it many miles on several vacations. Unfortunately the odometer is mechanical and registers while being towed. The P.O.s did put a lot of miles on it, but took good care of it. The paint still shines like new with a coat of wax. They must have kept it garaged as I have since 2005. The only body damage is the scratch next to the Volkswagon logo on the hatchback which can be seen if the photo. The front tires are new Bridgestones(around 500 miles) mounted on early Scirocco wheels, but missing the center caps. The rear tires are Uniroyal with 3/4 tread remaining and mounted on steel wheels with hub caps that nearly match the front wheels. The rubber components in the front suspension have been replaced along with the ball joints and a recent wheel alignment. The rear wheels have new bearings and brake cylinders. The AC has new 134A freon, new seals and blows cold. The radio is AM/FM/cassette and plays well for that vintage. The heater temperature control became very hard to move, so the heat is now adjusted by a knob under the dash. The sheepskin seat cover is covering up some wear on the driver's seat back, but the original upholstery on the seat bottom is still in great condition. There are no cracks in the dash pad, but some discoloration above the glove box. I have always had the back seat removed because of the additional space it gives and also because it reduces the weight. The upholstery is still in excellent condition as shown in the picture.I have never been able to figure the MPG because one tank lasts so long and then we tow it. So it is hard to keep records of actual mileage driven and then towed mileage. I am assuming that it gets the usual 45 - 50 on the road. The tow bar, lights and assorted towing equipment is for sale also and I would like to get $200 for it all.The inside of the car has been thoroughly cleaned and a new headliner installed. With the new engine, suspension parts and tires the car runs and drives very well. I am selling because I need room for a VW diesel pickup I have recently bought and am in the process of restoring. Since it has the 1.9 AAZ engine, I plan to use it as my tow car, if I don't sell it first.I reserve the right to end the auction at any time because the car is for sale locally. Payment instructions are listed above in the introduction. If you have questions my email is: docwood@juno.com.
