Vehicle Detail
***Relisted due to eBay cancelling original listing due to Ebay technical problem not displaying the VIN, year and other information even though I entered it**** Also relisted with a lower reserve! And I am going to include many boxes of spare parts I have accumlated over the years of my ownership of three different 914's! This is a very nice example of a factory stock 1973 Porsche 914 2.0 which is considered by many to be the most desirable edition of the 4 cylinder models. The car was ordered from the factory with the rare Sepia Brown special order paint from the 911 series along with brown interior. The car originally came from the west coast and therefore has never had any of the usual rust issues found in other examples of these cars found in the rust belt of the mid-west. Even the area under the battery was rust free which is hard to find on a 914. The car looks and drives great and has just been refurbished to a very nice driver or show condition but was not redone to concourse specs. It was stripped down and the old paint removed down to bare metal, and then repainted with 2 stage color/clear coat original Sepia Brown paint and reassembled with many new or reconditioned parts. I only drive the car occasionally and then only in sunny weather, so it has been pampered ever since. Since this is a 1973 2.0 model, it came with many of the features as standard that were optional in other years: fuchs alloy wheels (including spare), chrome front and rear bumpers which look excellent, fog lights, leather steering wheel, center console with optional gauges (yes, the clock works!), and the center cushion/console, and vinyl wrapped targa bar/sail panel. This was also the first year for the side-shifter version of the 5-speed transmission which was an important improvement over the earlier “tail shifters”. The engine was rebuilt before I acquired the car (sadly no receipts) but it runs great, burns no oil, has no oil leaks or drips and the transmission shifts crisp and clean. When the engine and transmission was pulled for the repaint, I re-sealed the engine for extra insurance and was going to replace the clutch, but the Sachs clutch/pressure plate looked like new so it was reinstalled. The original D-Jet factory fuel injection has been thoroughly gone through and runs great. Four new fuel injectors were just installed along with a new Manifold Pressure Sensor and all new vacuum hoses and fuel lines which is critical to a good running 2.0 D-Jet. The remaining sensors and system components, such as the Aux Air Regulator, temperature sensors, etc were all benched tested and verified to be in good condition and within specs. Please note: the working odometer is showing 67,088 miles but I have no documentation to verify actual miles. The state of Illinois does not list mileage on older cars and that section is also blank on the title I have in hand. Here is a partial list of new parts and work done recently: New Sepia Brown factory color paint (Special Order 911 color) New German Hella front turn signal lenses. New genuine Porsche front trunk seal. New inner door seals, “fuzzies”, and scraper seals. New door stay rollers. New side-light seals. New engine main seal, push rod tubes O-rings, valve cover gaskets, transmission flange seals, shifter bushings, motor mounts. Engine tuned up and valves adjusted less than 100 miles ago: new spark plugs, wires, cap, points, filters. Compression measured 120 psi all cylinders. The original heat exchangers were in good condition as was the factory style “banana” muffler. They were cleaned and painted with HI-temp paint and heat cured. New heater control valves and hi-temp hoses. New targa bar “sail panel” vinyl. New German loop weave Palomino carpeting. Brand new Goodyear Eagle GT 195/65R15 tires (less than 100 miles on tires). New brake pads. Original interior (seats, rear pad, door panels) were cleaned and reinstalled. The seats have a few flaws as seen in the pictures, but I thought they looked very good and needed to be preserved. During reassembly after painting, every single part was cleaned, refurbished, or replaced with a better condition used part. The dash does have a crack but it is not that bad. Also included is a dash overlay which looks very good if installed, but I elected not to permanently install it and left it off for the pictures. There are just a few upgrades or improvements that have been made from stock: Steering rack was upgraded to Porsche 911 rack with turbo tie rod ends for crisper steering. The U.S. version taillights lenses were replaced with European versions (Hella) The factory rear trunk lid hinge mounts were a weak factory design and have been upgraded to Engman pivot hinges to eliminate future issues.. The cars original tool kit is missing, but it does come with the jack, lug nut wrench, tow bar eyelet, Fuchs spare wheel w/older tire, owner’s manual with original holder and other factory papers, original bottle of Sepia Brown touch up paint, and several sets of keys. Some issues are the before mentioned crack in the dash, a few minor spots of wear marks on the seats and door panels (see pics), and the targa top has a few minor blemishing from installing/removing that could be touched up. Other than that , this is a great looking and driving Porsche 914. If Sepia Brown is your color, then this car is for you!
