Vehicle Detail
This 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire is a fine example of automotive flash and bling. The spectacular car with its red two tone interior, has been repainted from black to Garnet Mist Poly, a correct 1962 Olds color. It is rust free as any areas with rust were either replaced or repaired. All chrome pieces and aluminum side panels were removed for painting and body work. All bumpers were rechromed, and the front windshield was replaced with a perfect original windshield (not an aftermarket). The rear glass was removed for painting and replaced with a new gasket. All weather stripping and trunk gasket have been replaced. The gas tank was dropped cleaned out and coated. The fuel sending unit was replaced. The engine is the original 394 ci engine. I have done nothing to the engine except tune it up. I do not believe it has been rebuilt, but the previous owner stated that the heads had been rebuilt with hardened valves and seats. I have no proof of that. The speedometer unit inside the car is a replacement which shows around 34,000 miles on it but the one I removed had about 85,000 so I would guess that was the correct mileage. The car runs great, with lots of get up and go The transmission is the original slim jim and was rebuilt. The tansmission shifts like a slim jim. The brakes have been redone, new master cylinder. The car has new shocks, tires and exhaust system. I just put a new electric fuel pump on it for better fuel deliviery. It has a new battery. The interior upholstery was custom made using the original upholstery as a pattern. All upholstery materials were correct color and grain aftermarket obtained from SMS upholstery. The headliner is custom made to match color and retains the chromed plastic ribs. The rear package tray was custom made. The carpets are the original carpets with the vinyl ribbed inserts. The metal dash structure was repainted when the car was painted. The dash pad, center console bolsters and door handle arm rests were redone by Just Dashes in California. The steering wheel was removed and the original broken plastic was removed and recast in the correct color plastic. The door panels and rear interior quarter panels are original with no cracks or tears. The interior of this car is stunning and looks like a new car. The car is sold as with no warranty, it is a 49 year old car, however it does ride and drive nice. All headlights, taillights, brake lights and turn signals and interior lights are working. There a a couple of dash and instrument panel bulbs that are burned out. The following are to the best of my knowledge, the items that do not work or need to be repaired. I will be as accurate and honest about these as I can be. The air conditioner does not function, but my mechanic says all the parts are there. The radio does not have a speaker in the dash so I do not know if it works or not. The windshield wipers do not work. I do not know why, but again I am told all pieces are there. The glove box door does not close as tight as I would like for it to. After the interior was reassembled, I cannot get the console glove box open. Not sure why.The car is missing switches for the courtesy lights and the power antenna. These switches are mounted on the lower lip of the dash pad and above the radio. When the car was disassembled, those switches somehow got lost. I think I have located replacements for them from a guy in Arizona, and I will try to have them here before the car is sold and leaves. I will not be able to have them installed for you. I paid $4,500 for the car, spent about $5,000 on the interior, about $8,000 on paint and body and probably about $2500 on mechanical work. While this car is not perfect, it is in very nice condition and always draws a crowd. The hard work is done and those items remaining are not big challenges.
