Vehicle Detail
This is one great modified survivor for the true Z enthusiast. Collectable very low miles condition. Probably redundant to tell anyone reading this that it's powered by a 2.8 liter inline 6 cylinder fuel injected gas engine. The previous owner I purchased the car from in Seattle had all the work done at a local performance shop specializing in Z cars. Only 12,000 miles on rebuilt drivetrain since 1989. The car was built to run at high speeds. It has been impecably maintained and cared for, and is almost show ready. There are a few parking lot type small door dings, nothing that gouged through the paint. Finish waxes up very well indeed. The pictures look OK but they don't do that paint justice. The color name is ruby-red black, and in the sun up close you can see the faint crimson flake in black catching the light, not like those irridescent pearl type topcoats but actual redish metalic flake in black. If it sounds cool looking, it is.Minimal rust and very very minimal actual rot. Interior re-done and almost immaculate, with the only significant flaw being a small tear in the drivers seat, smaller than a half-dollar coin. It is a slick top, non-turbo (the only style offered this first year for the new ZX). The modifications include; front air dam and rear spoiler, lowered to the ground 2", front kyb gas struts, rear 5000 performance struts, H rated tires 215-60 R14, Jim Cook racing springs, Jim Cook flywheel, McCloud Street strip clutch and pressure plate, blockflat top pistons, new injectors (2002), Schneider Stage II racing cam 3000-7000 RPM, Schneider Racing valves and springs, Big Throat throttle body, 1982 square port turbo head, hooker 3to1 3to1 headers, 2 1/2" exhaust, HP air system, Hi-Po cooling system, high output alternator. All modifications well thought out, performed professionally and in keeping with Nissan tech (tasteful, smarter), and still often gets upwards of 30mpg highway (26 to 27 all day highway). It runs out great, looks great doing it, impressive high end that really starts to hum around 100 and happy to keep it up all day. Motivated to sell only under duress of hard times, this is a great car and will be sorely missed. I live about half way between Denver and Albuquerque, near Alamosa in Southern Colorado's San Luis Valley. Delivery possible for buyers within this general area. All gauges work, including the clock, brakes, lights, signals, horn, washer/wipers, blower fan/heat, glass good, steering tight, not sluggish or stuttery. Parking brake holds fast and adjusted correctly. The large round emblem on the hood has been removed but is included. It has an aftermarket anti-theft system with keyless remote arm/disarm. The limo tinted power side windows have more authority than most, they operate fast and decisive, with switchable "one touch down" selector for the drivers side window. The window controls themselves aren't the cheap feeling one's either. At idle you can tell clearly it is not stock by the sound, it rumbles tough sounding like a big V8. If you love these cars, I'd rate the likelihood that this one will dis-appoint as very very low. Oh yeah, there is an interior body panel missing in the rear-most drivers side, the one that covers from behind the rear strut tower to the start of the tail light assembly, not awfully noticeable unless the rear hatch is open and you look right at it. In the 1st of two videos mentioned here post script, I show how effortlessly the car starts (you should never pump the gas pedal when cranking to start with these cars) from cold- although be sure not to follow my example of cranking it in gear without the clutch or brake engaged. However, my point regarding it's starting is that these cars have a sometimes tendancy to what I've heard refered to as "vapor lock", a symptom which appears only after the car has been run and operated for awhile, then shut off,, when soon going to re-start it, it will sometimes behave as though starved of fuel for a few moments. This small idiosyncrasy some might find slightly annoying (when it happens, it starts right back up more often than not), but it's nothing that will leave you by the side of the road, just don't shut it off at traffic lights and then pump the gas deep over and over trying to start it again or you'll be sorry. This symptom does not reflect the notorious 100,000 mile or so malfunctioning ignition control module, it did and was replaced at the dealer. Additionally, want to disclose an issue with the release for the rear hatch latch by the drivers seat. The mechanism works flawlessly, however the latch doesn't move free of it's catch so when you let go of the release lever the hatch remains fastened down (perhaps due to additional weight from the rear spoiler). This leaves you to either have some-one there to open the hatch when you pull the release, open it manually with the key, or tie a pull to the lever and give it a tug from behind the car, I suppose a person could also fashion a small wedge to hold the lever up temporarily when needed. Ask questions before bidding. This is a 32 year old car, and darn sweet at that, but not perfect (i've tried to disclose any and all discrepancies, flaws, malfunctions I've been able to notice).Though I'd be confident to depart cross-country with it tomorrow. Considering the exceptional condition and upkeep of the interior and exterior, the mileage being so below average, and the ton of cash the previous owner spent on modifications and custom door skins and stuff (those to allow for high output door mounted speakers)- this car is priced very attractively. And while without warrantee, is gauranteed to impress, and be free of undisclosed maintenance/repair issues. It's in enviable outstanding collectable shape, and as a driver she surely has many years and many many tens of thousands potential drivetrain miles. At 77k is hardly past the break in period, the L28 in line six can go 300 to 500k before a rebuild, sans neglect. Message me here for additional info or to have me email you the videos. Heres to the next very proud owner of this beautiful classic sports car. I may also be contacted at 719-657-0507 or 719-480-5397. Curt On Aug-09-11 at 11:37:07 PDT, seller added the following information: I also have two short videos of the car which I may send to the email address of prospective buyers. One video is showing the car starting cold in the garage. The other is a walk around view of the car's exterior, then entered, pulled onto route 160 and run up to around 90 plus mph, showing the windshield view and gauges. (its very nice here in the Colorado high desert)
