Vehicle Detail
1965 Austin Healey BJ8 VIN HBJ8 L 37397 Motor ID # 29K / RU / H / 11977 Chassis ID # 82,173 Restoration project. Numbers matching car. Positives of the car: Front and rear shroud are in excellent shape. Car does not have accident damage on the frame. Main frame rails are solid and straight. Negatives of the car: The car has the typical big Healey rust. Panels that will need replaced include main floors, toe boards, inner and outer rockers, trunk floor. Rear cross member in front of trunk floor will probably need to be replaced. Tips of one rear outrigger will need repair. Parts recap: The bulk of the critical parts are present including all four fenders, doors, trunk, hood, motor (motor does turn over), overdrive transmission, rear end, front suspension, steering box, dashboard, console, instruments, convertible top, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, windshield, & shroud chrome strip. Parts are boxed up as follows: Box 1 – Heater box & blower motor assembly, battery cut off switch, turn signals, distributor. Box 2 – Horns, wiper arms & wiper motor, fuse box, speedo angle drive, gas tank filler tube, emergency brake lever, door handles, rear view mirror. Box 3 Rear socks, suspension arm, rear suspension plates, front sway bar brakets, idler arm aluminum spacers, front brake hose restraining clips. Box 4 Convertible top spring, gas tank restraining straps, door check straps, engine mounts, washer bottle bracket, fan blade (1), carburetor linkages, tranny mounts, generator bracket, trunk latch, hook latch mechanism, hood hinge (1), Box 5- Headlight buckets, trim, radiator duct panel. Know parts missing: radiator, seats, rear seat pans, generator, 1 brake caliper, gas tank., carburetors, exhaust, system. The car is definitely a project, however if you are handy with a mig welder and have patience in panel fitting, the repair work is doable. I bought the car in its current state and have lost interest in restoring it at this point as I have 3 other big Healeys that I am working on. My loss is your gain.
