The Protege was one of Mazda's big sellers early in the decade providing good value and economy in a well equipped package. This Protege is finished in Highlight Silver Metallic over a grey cloth interior. The exterior looks good, but be prepared to see some bumps and bruises. There are touched up areas and a few dings/dents. Nothing uncommon for a 12 year old car, remember it is not new. There is some rust forming on the left rocker panel/"dog leg" area and some scrapes and dents. (see photos of all cosmetic issues and decide for yourself. The cloth cabin looks very good with no excessive stains, smoke or pet odors. The front buckets are manual and do recline. The rear split bench folds down to increase cargo capacity. The air conditioning is icy cold and heat will broil you. A factory CD player, along with power windows. locks and cruise complete the amenitiy list. Powertrain is a 4 cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection combined with an automatic transmission. The engine starts easily with no smoke or unusual noises. Trans is fine through all the gears. All the tires are matching Futura blackwall radials mounted on the factory 4 bolt 5 spoke alloy rims. Wear is fairly even, both fronts are at 5/32" and rears are 8/32". The alloys are showing age with curb rash and clearcoat peeling.
