UP FOR SALE IS MY "SLEEPER" 1982 FORD LTD STATION WAGON. I NEED TO SELL THIS ASAP!!! CAR HAS 33K ACTUAL MILES, IT WAS AN IMMACULATE ONE-OWNER CAR, CLEAN, A TRUE SURVIVOR. WE BOUGHT IT FOR THE MOTOR & TRANSMISSION FOR ANOTHER PROJECT BUT AFTER PULLING THEM OUT WE DECIDED IT WAS TOO NICE TO SCRAP OUT AND DEMO DERBY GUYS WANTED TO BUY IT FOR NOTHING. SO IT SAT ON OUR LOT FOR A COUPLE MONTHS UNTIL I STARTED BRAINSTORMING. DID YOU EVER SEE THE MOVIE "WHITE LIGHTNING" WITH BURT REYNOLDS? HE HAD A FULL SIZE EARLY 70'S LTD WITH A MANUAL 4-SPD AND I WANTED ONE TOO! HERE'S THE STORY: I HAD ANOTHER 302 BLOCK THAT NEEDED WORK; IT WENT TO THE MACHINE SHOP, IT WAS HOT-TANKED, BORED OUT 040, NEW FREEZE PLUGS AND CAM BEARINGS. CRANK WAS BAD SO I WENT WITH A 10/10 REGRIND. NEW PARTS: CLEVITE RODS, MAINS & CAM BEARINGS MELLING HIGH-VOLUME OIL PUMP CLOYES DOUBLE ROLLER TIMING CHAIN SET SEALED POWER FLAT TOP PISTONS(9.5 TO 1 COMP) CAST RINGS COMP CAM 270H CAMSHAFT & LIFTERS COMP CAM HIGH ENERGY PUSH RODS PRW 1.6 ALUMINUM ROLLER TIP ROCKERS FLOO-TEK ALUMINUM HEADS FLOWTECH SHORTY HEADERS PETRONIX DISTRIBUTOR MSD STREET FIRE IGNITION BOX, WIRES & BLASTER 2 COIL EDELBROCK 600 CFM CARB WITH ELECTRIC CHOKE K&N AIR FILTER WITH PLEATED FILTER TOP PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS "AIR GAP" INTAKE PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS HARMONIC BALANCER HOLLEY STREET FUEL PUMP HURST SHIFTER ALUMINUM RACE RADIATOR WATER PUMP BRAKE BOOSTER & MASTER CYLINDER GRANATELLI ADJUSTABLE QUADRANT AND CABLE BATTERY AND CABLES FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS, HOSES & PADS REAR WHEEL CYLINDERS MOTOR RUNS & SOUNDS GOOD, LOOKS IMPRESSIVE WHEN HOOD IS OPEN. I RETAINED THE FACTORY A/C AND CRUISE(STILL WORKING OUT BUGS WITH C/C). I UNWRAPPED THE FACTORY LOOM AND REMOVED THE WIRES I DIDN'T NEED AND RELOOMED IT ALL WITH THE ADDITIONAL WIRING NEEDED. IT ALL LOOKS FACTORY, NOTHING HACKED UP OR WIRES DRAPPING EVERYWHERE. SAME THING WENT ON WITH THE INTERIOR TOO, KEPT EVERYTHING LOOKING STOCK. EXCEPT WITH THE ADDITION OF THE HURST PULL BACK SHIFTER, OIL & TEMP GAUGES IN CHROME CUPS UNDER THE DASH ON THE TRANNY HUMP. HAS AN 8K TACH WITH SHIFTLITE MOUNTED TO THE RIGHT OF THE STEERING COLUMN. INTERIOR IS VERY IMPRESSIVE FOR IT'S CONDITION AND AGE, ONLY PROBLEM IS THE HEADLINER-TYPICAL FORD HEADLINER SAG. IF MY TIME PERMITS, I WILL HAVE IT RECOVERED AS A BONUS. DASH IS PERFECT, NO CRACKS; SEATS ARE VINYL-FRONT IS POWER; DOOR PANELS ARE PERFECT TOO. IT STILL HAD SOME OF THE FACTORY PLASTIC ON THE CARPET WHEN I GOT IT. PREVIOUS OWNERS HAD CARPET REMNANTS ON THE FLOOR SO THE CARPET IS PERFECT TOO. THIS CAR SAT INSIDE SO SUN FADE IS NONE. ORIGINAL FORD AM-FM "MONO" PUSH BUTTON RADIO AND GAS GAUGE STILL WORKS. ALL THE GLASS IS GOOD, ALL CHROME TRIM IS BRIGHT & SHINEY. FOR THE 5 SPEED CONVERSION, I USED A CLUTCH/BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY FROM A 1991 FOX BODY MUSTANG-IN WHICH ALL OF THE 5 SPEED CAME FROM. I ONLY HAD TO MODIFY IT A LITTLE, BUT ALL OF THE GEOMETRY WAS CORRECT. I MADE A NEW PLATE FOR THE FIREWALL TO MOUNT THE MUSTANG BOOSTER. HAD TO USE IT TO CLEAR ROOM FOR THE CLUTCH CABLE MOUNTING. THE TRANSMISSION CAME THE 91, IT WAS REBUILT AT ONE TIME-SHIFTS GOOD, BUT TOP COVER SEEPS A BIT, NOT BAD BUT IT DOES GET A LITTLE WET. IT HAS A KING COBRA CLUTCH, NEW PILOT & THROWOUT BEARING. SPEEDO IS OFF A BIT SO I'VE BEEN EXPERIMENTING WITH DIFFERENT SPEEDO GEARS. IT ALL WORKS TOGETHER AND LOOKS LIKE IT WAS MADE THAT WAY. I INSTALLED A SET OF 3.55 GEARS IN THE 8.8 AS WELL AS A POSI. PUT A NEW SET OF 225/70R14 HERCULES RWL TIRES ALL AROUND WITH THE FACTORY HUBCAPS. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 90% ORIGINAL PAINT, WHEN WE GOT IT IT HAD SOME DAMAGE ON THE RIGHT REAR QUARTER, SO IT WAS FIXED AND REPAINTED AS WELL AS A COUPLE OF OTHER SMALLER AREAS. IT DOES STILL HAVE SOME TOUCHED UP ROCK CHIPS ON THE FRONT. I DIDN'T WANT TO LOOSE ANY OF THE CAR'S ORIGINALITY OR DUMP MORE MONEY INTO PAINT. IT HAS TRUE DUAL EXHAUST USING FLOWMASTER "KNOCK-OFF" MUFFLERS GOING INTO WALKER(NOW DISCONTINUED) TAILPIPES WE MODIFIED TO EXIT AT THE REAR BUMPER. THEY ARE TUCKED TIGHT SO THEY DON'T STAND OUT. LIKE I HAVE BEEN SAYING OR YOU MAY HAVE FIGURED OUT BY READING...I KEPT THIS THING AS STEALTH AS POSSIBLE, TRYING TO KEEP THING SUBTLE AND RETAIN THE FACTORY LOOKS. A PERSON NEEDS TO SEE THIS IN PERSON TO APPRECIATE ALL THE TIME TUCKING, HIDING & CAMOFLAUGING EVERYTHING. IT GETS A LOT OF DOUBLE TAKES, A STOCK WAGON BUT YETS IT RUMBLES BY WITH A 5 SPEED TO BOOT. CLEAR ILLINOIS TITLE IN MY NAME!!!!! THIS CAR DRIVES & HANDLES BETTER THAN A NEW ONE, TIGHT STEERING, NO PULLING OR DARTING, SUSPENSION FEELS GOOD. YOU WILL BE AMAZED-EVERYONE THAT HAS RIDEN IT SAYS THE SAME THING " I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW GOOD THIS THING RIDES & DRIVES!" IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT, HERE YOU GO!! I TOOK IT TO A CRUISE THE OTHER NIGHT AND IT WON AUTO ZONE MANAGER'S CHOICE AWARD. I ASKED THE MANGER HOW? THERE WAS A NICE RESTORED 70 CHEVELLE SS, AN EARLY 80'S VETTE, A 69 MUSTANG FASTBACK ALL PARKED AROUND ME... HE SAID PEOPLE COMING INTO THE STORE KEPT TALKING ABOUT THAT LIGHT BLUE WAGON AND HE NOTED THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE LOOKING AT IT.
