Vehicle Detail

1939 Packard Six Original Survivor I Bought this car 2 1/2 years ago with the intention of reviving it into a nice daily driver but, my health has been bad and I'm unable to continue working on it. The car is located at my weekend cottage near Gladwin, Michigan and will have to be trailer-ed to your location although I drove it to where its at now. I bought the car from a guy in Cadillac, Michigan, he bought it from a fellow from Missouri and it was originally purchased in Oklahoma. According to the guy I bought it from it was painted and had a new interior installed in the 1950's. He replaced the original Packard engine and trans with a 1965 Ford 6 cylinder and automatic trans. The original engine and transmission is available for pickup at no additional charge at a farm near Cadillac, MI. You would have to pick it up yourself. The car has a radio under the dash that appears to be original, I'm not sure of the working order. Also, the spare tire is a wide whitewall that appears original and looks never used but is dirty on the whitewall but will probably be cleanable. The car is pretty solid for a 72 year old car, not much rust. The paint was peeling badly when I got it so I put some primer on the peeling places just to protect it while I recovered from my illness. I removed the running boards and derusted and primed them, then re-installed. The engine ran good but was very loud because the exhaust manifold was cracked in several spots. I bought a used head from a junk yard and had it rebuilt and installed it. The single barrel carb wouldn't fit the new head so I bought a 2 barrel adapter and a 2 barrel carb off e-bay and installed them but do not have the gas line or linkage connected. The car has not been started since installing the new head 2 years ago. I also bought a new front end rebuild kit that is in the box sitting in the back floor, the cost was $600. I have some beauty rings for the wheels that go with it, the wheels and hubcaps appear to be original. If you have any questions send me an e-mail through e-Bay. So, having said all that, this car is sold as non-running and needing work. AS IS. It has possibilities and lots of good parts. Picking the car up is the responsibility of the buyer, I can't help with that. You will need to make a deposit of $300 via Paypal at the close of the auction. This deposit is non-refundable so make sure you want the car when bidding. I have 100% positive feedback on e-Bay and am always honest and as helpful as I can be. **UPDATE** An eBayer told me if the vin number starts with "1282" then the car has a 122 inch wheelbase. I got the title out and it does start with 1282 so the wheelbase is 122 inches. **UPDATE** I cleaned the car out yesterday and took some more pics, if I can't get them posted send me an e-mail with your e-mail address and I will forward the pics to you. I found one rust thru spot in the trunk and one in the front passenger floor. Neither is too bad, should be fixable although I'm no expert. The worst rust on the body is at the bottom of the 2 front fenders where the running boards bolt to the fenders. These are also minor and should be easily fixable. There is also bondo on the drivers door bottom but I can't see any reason for it to be there as there is a piece of sheetmetal welded in place. Amateur repair job. I believe this car had some sloppy work done in the 1950's and an amateur paint job and interior reupholstry job. ALSO: I found the persons name I bought the car from and their phone number, called the number this morning but got no answer. I will try again later. Hopefully they still have the motor and trans available. I will update as soon as I speak to them. Thanks. Stan **UPDATE** I was able to contact the people I bought this car from and they still have the original engine and transmission. It can be picked up at their farm near Cadillac, MI, at no charge. This would be done by whoever buys the car, I can't do it. I will provide the winner with their name, address and phone number after the auction and after the car is paid for. Any questions shoot me an e-mail. Thanks. Stan **UPDATE** I added a picture of a rebuilt '39 Packard that sold several years ago for $24,000
