Vehicle Detail
Due to too many vehicles and not enough space, I'm putting my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Limited up for auction. I've owned this Jeep for six-and-a-half years, and it's been an absolutely fantastic daily driver / weekend warrior XJ with some substantial (and very desirable) upgrades and a current Virginia state inspection through March of 2012. Unfortunately, circumstances dictate that it is time to let it go to another good home. This Cherokee is a pretty much fully-loaded Limited model - I believe that the only major option it didn't leave the factory with was a sunroof. The leather interior is in excellent condition, with no rips or tears in the seats. Both front seats are power-adjustable, and also have the very rare seat heaters which were only offered as an option in 2000 and 2001. The stereo has been upgraded to an Alpine CDA-9856 AM/FM/CD/MP3/iPod unit, and also has an XM satellite radio receiver installed (XM subscription not included); this is connected to the factory premium audio package, which included tweeters in the A-pillars and an amplifier. Windows and door locks are powered with remote door locking, and the side mirrors are heated in tandem with the rear defroster. The window tint is also factory, so will not bubble or peel as aftermarket film tints will. Everything works as would be expected for a Jeep of this year, including the cruise control and overhead console. A spare key is also included, which would cost approximately $100 to have replaced at a dealership as this vehicle is equipped with anti-theft electronic keys. The drivetrain is the bulletproof 4.0-litre engine and AW4 transmission, and the transfer case is the NP242 Selec-Trac. This transfer case adds a full-time 4WD mode suitable for use on hard surfaces (e.g., pavement) over the standard NP231 unit, which is extremely useful in bad weather. From the factory it also received the tow package (which added a towbar, auxiliary transmission cooler, and heavy-duty radiator), and the Up-Country suspension, which, in addition to an inch of lift over stock, also added skid plates for the fuel tank, transfer case, and front suspension, as well as tow hooks at the front. It also has the optional 124-amp alternator, which is a massive improvement over the standard 90-amp unit. Oil pressure when warm holds at 15-20psi at idle, and between 40-50psi when running. Warm or cold there is no smoke from the tailpipe or excessive oil consumption, and no signs of head or head gasket failure. The same applies to the coolant, with warm engine temperatures typically between 190 and 210 degrees and no loss or consumption of coolant. Oil changes have been every 4,000 miles on average, with coolant changed annually during the time I have owned this XJ. Now for the upgrades. One of the main goals in improving this vehicle's off-road capability was to retain the ability to use it as a civilized daily driver while performing well in the rough, and it has been exceptional in that regard - this wasn't a Jeep that just got some springs and tires and was considered done. Here's the list of what has gone into: Suspension: Old Man Emu 3" heavy-duty lift springs front and rear, with an add-a-leaf in the rear springs for improved cargo carrying capacity; shocks are also Old Man Emu long-travel units. The front coils have JKS ACOS adjustable coil spacers with JKS extended shackles on the rear leaves for a total of 4.5" of lift. Rubicon Express 4-degree angle shims were also placed in the rear leaf spring packs to help with rear axle pinion angle. Steering: The front swaybar has JKS quicker disconnects, and the trackbar was upgraded to a Rubicon Express heavy-duty adjustable unit with matching heavy-duty frame mount. The upper and lower control arms are adjustable units (again from JKS), so driveline, steering, and suspension geometry at the front are correct - no death wobble, and it goes where you point it. Driveline: The AW4 transmission is bone-stock. The NP242 transfer case has had an Advanced Adapters slip-yoke eliminator installed (this is a full SYE replacing the tailcone and output shaft, not a 'hack-and-tap' type) along with a Tom Woods two-piece rear driveshaft. The driveline is vibration-free. Front axle: Dana 30 with Yukon 4.10:1 gears and an ECTED electric locker. A 4XDoctor diff guard has also been fitted. Rear axle: Upgraded to a Dana 44 from an '88 XJ. Similar to the front axle, it also has Yukon 4.10:1 gears, an ECTED locker, and 4XDoctor diff guard. Axle shafts are Ten Factory alloy units, and the rear brakes have been converted to Teraflex DBK-JE discs. Engine: Stock apart from Bosch 0280155917 injectors. These are the orange ones typically used in Ford V8 applications, and provide improved mid-range throttle response without negatively affecting fuel economy. Cooling system: The stock mechanical fan was upgraded to one from a ZJ with the heavy-duty cooling option (NAPA part number 272310). Otherwise stock. Other upgrades: Wheels are Moab rims from a TJ Wrangler Rubicon; tires are 245/75R16 BF Goodrich T/A KOs. Rear cargo tie-downs were replaced with much stronger ones from an S-10 Blazer. Headlamps are Sylvania Silverstar 6054 sealed-beam units. A Mopar block heater was fitted two years ago; it works well and does not leak. Recent maintenance other than items previously listed included a new heavy-duty radiator (the old one developed a leak, but the vehicle was not overheated) and radiator cap, steering and driveshaft U-joints, new rear brake pads (rear discs were also turned), and fresh handbrake cables. The MAP, coolant, and manifold temperature sensors have also been replaced. Transfer case fluid was changed approximately one year ago, along with the differentials. The front and rear oxygen sensors were replaced approximately six months ago. Matching spare tire is unused, but does show signs of dirt on it from being carried on the roof. The valve cover gasket was replaced last October. A Cobra 75 WXST CB radio has been fitted, along with a custom antenna mount. This radio is a two-piece unit consisting of a handset that houses all of the controlling electronics with a separate transmitter. The transmitter, antenna cabling, and mount are included as installed, but as I am recycling the handset into another vehicle that part would have to be obtained separately. Exterior condition is good overall. There are signs of brush scrapes in the paint and a few stone chips on the hood, but no structural rust that I am aware of - the rockers and floorpans are solid, as are the spring and control arm mounts. There is a dent in the back bumper from where I backed into a post; the plan was to either swap out for a same-colour junkyard bumper or upgrade the bumpers, but sale has changed those plans. The front of the passenger side rocker has a trail dent which happened four days before the rocker guards arrived. The minor scrape on the driver's side of the grille surround was a parking lot hit-and-run, but the grille sits square and is not loose or otherwise damaged. The one accident on record was also a parking lot mishap: a work truck backed into me while I was stopped as it was exiting a parking space. There was no structural damage from this, and the Jeep drives straight. So there you have it - a basically good, solid XJ that's equally ready for town or trail duty; all it needs is the right owner. Please be sure to scroll down to the 'Questions and answers about this item' section after the photos, as any questions you may have may already be answered there. Happy bidding and best of luck!
