Vehicle Detail
This 1928 Willys-Overland Whippet sedan is a very nice example of an original car that has been well maintained and reconditioned as needed through the decades. It is registered with the Willys Overland Knight Registry. The body wood and all sheet metal are original and are very solid with no evidence of any rot or repair work. The floorboards and the underside of the car look to be in very good shape with minimal wear. At some point, the car has been repainted in the original color scheme. The finish is very presentable, yet there are a few minor scratches and chips here and there. Also, at some point, the bright work has been replated, wood spokes and hubs refinished, the top material replaced, the brakes reconditioned, and the seats recovered. The odometer shows 22,490 miles and is believed to be accurate, but the speedometer does not work at this time. The car is equipped with its original 4 cylinder engine, manual 3-speed transmission, and 4-wheel mechanical brakes. There is a very nice set of Riverside tires on the car, with correct tread. The original wood steering wheel is excellent. Extra features include, an engine temp gauge, dual tail-lights, period turn signals, passenger door window ventilators, bumpers, wind-wings, external rearview mirror, owner’s manual, and original tools. The only original equipment missing is the horn and mounting bracket. I have located an original and will pass the information on to the buyer. A new electric fuel pump was installed. This Whippet can sit for weeks and then start right up, and it runs very well. The engine runs smooth and strong, but I do not know the history in terms of any reconditioning. The clutch and non-synchronized transmission operate as they should, and the car drives and handles very well. The brakes are mechanical and stop and hold the car as they should. The radiator is exceptional for the age. All lights work. Recently, I changed all the fluids with the correct antifreeze or oil and greased the entire drive train. After driving, there are some oil drips. I have floor pans on the garage floor. The Willys Overland Whippet automobiles have quite a following and are becoming more collectable every year. Well cared for cars like this are not as easy to find as they once were and this one will make someone a fun little driver. The car is available for your inspection prior to bidding.
