Excellent Runner and Driver!... 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII BJ8 Sports Convertible Chassis No. HBJ8L41804 Engine No. 29KRUH10652 The final version of the Big Healey sixes was the BJ8, introduced in 1963 and built for four years. With two SU HD8 carburetors the 2,912 cc six-cylinder engine produced 148 horsepower. In addition to various technical improvements, passengers were treated to a more luxuriously trimmed interior with a wood-faced dashboard and center console. The “Phase II” version of the Mk III was even better, introduced in 1964 with increased ground clearance, an improved ride with softer rear springs, better controlled rear axle hop, and such standard equipment as front disc brakes and four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The ultimate iteration, however, was the 3000 BJ8 Mk III Phase II Sports Convertible. Equally luxurious and comfortable, it offered two-thirds more power than the first four-cylinder cars, yet weighted in at barely 15 percent more. Only 17,712 Mk IIIs were built and its attributes have made it the most desirable among collectors. HBJ8L41804: Offered here is a very nicely presented late production Big Healey. Displaying a well preserved restoration, this former show winner has been lovingly maintained by the previous caretakers since the early 1980’s. During the restoration, the BJ8 was revived to original specs, with additions such as a factory rally cam, oil cooler, stainless steel exhaust, and Sebring wing vents. It is equipped with painted wire wheels, overdrive, and the original BMC radio. The Healey’s correct BJ8 motor, although not original to the vehicle (but correct type), was rebuilt less than 5,000 miles ago by Brian’s Auto in Kansas City, KS, along the carburetors which were rebuilt and synchronized by Jim Taylor of Bartlesville. A high quality re-spray (Healey blue/white) was commissioned two years ago. Rarely driven and kept under cover in the garage most of its life, this wonderful example is accompanied by the original owner’s manual, maintenance records, books, jack, full spare with cover, side curtains with case, Heritage Certificate, and accessories.
