For sale 1982 Mercedes Benz 240D with 4 speed manual transmission and 221,398 original miles. I bought this car in 8/04 with 202,000 miles (stored in garage until 8/08) from the owner of 20 years, it had some rust in the floor that was non-professionally patched and it has been holding since then. Clutch was replaced just before I bought it . The good: Engine is sound. Timing chain stretch was checked and adjusted valves at 202k; Replaced glow plugs with new quick start relay and plugs; Starts down to 8-9 degrees without plugging in block heater; Transmission and clutch perfect; Tires and shocks have approx. 20K; Recent new exhaust; Drives straight and tight; Brakes recently flushed along with change of transmission and rear fluids; All windows, gauges, lights, horn, controls work; Clean carpets and seats; Replaced all four speakers; Original paint still shines. The bad: Cruise control removed; A/C leaked out (R 12 is expensive) every few weeks so I removed the belt but mechanically it did work; Door locks must be in locked position for the engine to shut off (vacuum leak in up position in one door lock?); Original front discs (rear discs replaced) have begun to rust and pit when stopping there is a slight pulsing in the pedal (stops fine); Radio and power antenna stopped working. Extras: With the sale of car goes two new fuel filters, extra good water pump, power steering pump, alternator, starter, front grill and assorted tail & front signal lenses etc. from my past Mercedes Benz 240 D cars that all fit this one. This car is not a show car but a clean dependable daily driver for someone who is not in a rush. These cars are slow, comfortable, safe & EXTREMELY RELIABLE. Up to 34 MPG and runs on any kind of diesel fuel. Not meant for todays 70 mph+ highway speeds, most at home on city streets or 55 MPH country roads.
