Vehicle Detail

1966 Dodge Polara 500 NO RESERVE This is a 1966 Dodge Polara 500, B-Body 2dr Hardtop. During 1966, this was top of the line for the Polara 500, Buckets Seats, Center Console, Deluxe interior, the car also came with factory AC, 383 V8, now upgraded with a 440 V8. I have known this car for the last 10 years. The gentleman I got it from had it for a long time, he actually traded his 1968 Charger for it back in the early 80's. I talked to him many times, trying to buy the Polara, but he loved the car. It is still in its original paint, from what I can tell it has not ever been repainted. I don't mention this because I think the paint is nice, but mention it because it has a great body on it, there is not rust bubbles around the wheel wells, the rockers, doors, fenders, floor boards, frame rails are very solid and look great. A car can only be original once, and good clean Mopar bodies are really hard to find. We here in the Northwest, have very cool summers and mild winters, and we do not salt the roads, which has perserved our cars here in Oregon. A car like this will save you thousands of your hard earned money, unlike cars that are rusty. This car is a survivor, that deserves to be cared for and restored. The gentleman I got the car from recently passed away, and it was his dream to get the chance to restore this Polara 500. This car was basically his daily driver all these years. I was very glad that I have had the chance to own it among my small collection. I love original cars, even if they need work, there is just something about an original car. The body is in very good shape. The paint is original, but is not in great shape this is a pretty staight forward project. From the distance it looks okay, but you will see in the pictures there are lots of touch up spots on it, scratches, chips etc. The top of the hood, roof and trunk area are speckled, small little chips all over. Overall the car is very straight, when you look down the side, very few dings. The passenger fender in the font corner is damaged a little, and the front of the hood all the way across, was pushed in a little, and has sprong the hood a little and it is bowed as you can see in the pictures. Overall, very little body work to do on this car, a very good solid body. The grill area is in good shape, no breaks, in the grill or in the surrond very solid. Various other trim has small dings and scrathes. The front bumper is a little wavy, rear bumper is straight and needs rechromed. The tailight bezels look nice, but have little pits in them. Overall the chome is all there but in general needs to be restored. The undercarraige is in very good shape, floors are in great shape, frame rails look very good with no rust issues. The trunk area is in good shape but has pretty typical surface rust. It is very solid and have not noticed an rust pinholes as of yet. The glass is in good shape, no cracks. The windows all roll up and down, but the drivers side door glass is loose, and you have to guide it up, because it is off track a little. Inside the door jams are in good shape as well, and look clean. Interior is original, but as you can see the interior needs to be refreshed. A set of door panels, front seat covers, carpet and headliner, would do worlds of wonder in the interior. There are a few small cracks in the dash pad, by the instrument pods. This car was equipped with factory AC, but there is no pump under the hood anymore. The side mirror is a remote mirror but it is not working. Overally the inteior is there, but needs to be restored. The heater is not working it has a bad heater core I assume because the hoses have been bypassed. The heater fan switch is not work, I found an toggle switch under the dash that turns on the fan motor though. The blinkers work, brake lights work, interior courtsy lights are working. Dash lights work as well. The windshield wipers work, odometer and speedometer work. Someone put an oil pressure gauge in instrument panel, but it does not work, the radio does not work. Overall, it needs a good interior spruce up and little things fixed here and there and restored. It does run, and you can take it out on the freeway and drive around town. I have not done to much to it since owning it, it really needs a professional tuneup. I put new Accel Wires on it, Spark Pugs, Cap, Rotor and points. It really needs someone who is trained to really get it dialed in with carb tune, timing, etc. When it first starts up, it will puff a little smoke, then it goes away immediantly, probably worn valve guide seals. The engine is a 440, not sure what year it is. It does have a 4V carb on it. It is cold blooded it, it likes to be warmed up before you move it. It idles a little ruff, I think it really needs a good carb tune up and rebuild, like I said, have not done to much mechanical work to it, figured most people who will buy it will probably do a fresh rebuilt on the engine down the road. It really needs to be driven which does these cars a lot of good, instead of sitting. For now you can drive it around and enjoy it. The transmission shifts decent, but seems to shift a little sporatic at times, but I think it could use a good service, change the fluid, and filter etc. The brakes work decent as well, and stop the car good. Overall mechanically it does okay, but it is getting a little tired. The tires are in really good shape, they have about 90% tread and are fairly new. Odometer reads 63276, but assume it has rolled over at least once. It is NOT a trailer queen, but is a nice time capsule, that can be driven and enjoyed, it is a good project car that you would not be afraid to drive, but would also want to park it far away from anyone else in a general parking lot.
