Vehicle Detail
1963 Impala SS, Numbers matching 425 horse 409, 4 speed, nice clean unmolested survivor, has been in heated storage for years, unrestored, older repaint still in good conditionOn Jul-09-11 at 20:22:45 PDT, seller added the following information: Original radio works properly including tone adjust and fade contol. Heater controls work smoothly and fan operates without any strange noises. Cigar lighter works, horn works, turn signals work and cancel properly. Power steering is good and the car drives out well, brakes work well and it stops straight. The wipers do not work, I will check into that this week. The vents and cables and knobs are good and move smoothly. The carpet appears to be original with no holes in it. The doors and windows work as they should. No funny noises from the engine or trans. The engine runs out very strong and the trans shifts well. The clutch works well, but chatters some on take off (especially if you rev the engine too much). The exhaust system will need some attention. It has old stock style mufflers. At least one of them rattles inside at idle sometimes. Other than that rattle the system sounds good. The last digits of the VIN (S292022) are stamped on the block and the trans case. The block has T0325QB (Tonowanda March 25 High Perf 409) stamped on the pad as well. The trans side cover has 12-14-62 cast onto it. The tailshaft housing has 2-11-63 cast onto it. The rear diff is not original to the car with a 1958 date code. It is not a limited slip with a 3.55 ratio. The 3814881 intake number is correct. The 1100628 alternator number is correct and the alternator has a June 27, 1963 date code. The front carb is the correct 3361S number with a BC3 (B=2nd Rev, C=March, 3=1963) code. The rear carb is the correct 3362S number with a BE3 (B=2nd Rev, E=May, 3=1963) code. The left exhaust manifold has the correct 3822925 casting number. The right manifold has the correct 3822926 number. On Jul-12-11 at 19:25:57 PDT, seller added the following information: The wipers work properly now. It was simply a bad ground at the wiper motor. They run on high and low speeds and they park as they should. The washer pump runs when you push the button, but very little washer fluid comes out of the nozzles. I assume that the diapham is bad. This car belongs to my Father-in-Law. He has the title in hand free and clear of any leans. I was with him when he bought the car. To the best of my knowledge that was 12 to 14 years ago. I have had several people come to inspect the car. Some other things that have been pointed out to me...still has the original Harrison radiator with the original 409 fan shroud(unique square spacer blocks between the radiator and shroud)...mirrors are clear and bright...Hurst shifter is an upgrade that was added long ago, but the original shifter was the one part that was in the trunk when he bought the car. It goes with the car when it sells. On Jul-13-11 at 14:55:20 PDT, seller added the following information: The red brake light on the dash comes on when the park brake is set just as it should. With the key on and the engine off, the gen light and the oil light come on...they go out when you start the engine. The cold light stays on for a short time and then flickers out as the engine warms up. The fuel guage works. I decoded the cowl tag as best as I could. 6D 6 = month of manufacture (June) D = week of month (4th week of June) 63-1847 63 year of manufacture 1963 1847 V-8 Impala HT 2dr Sport Coupe SL 71164 Saint Louis and production sequence number 812 812 black vinyl bucket seats 927 Special "dealer only order" Anniversary Gold E C Y G These ACC codes are a very grey area to decode, but most people agree that E=Tinted Glass All C=Padded Dash Y=Unknown G=Rear Antenna 1962 was the anniversary year for Chevrolet. In '62 you could order your Impala painted Anniversary Gold. Chevrolet did build a limited number of 1963 gold Impalas. Unlike the 1962 anniv. gold car, the 1963 was very limited in production and only built for a period of a couple months. They were a special dealer promotional car. I believe each Chevrolet dealer was offered one by the factory but not all dealers ordered one. The 1963 gold paint is not on the 1963 color chart but has the same code # on the trim tag as the '62 gold cars. The 1963 gold cars were all Impala Sport Coupes with or without the Super Sport Option.
