Vehicle Detail
Specifics 1982 BJ40 LHD from Panama H55F 5 speed transmission 3B diesel engine with approx 155,000 miles on engine/transmission VIN number: BJ40051459 Arizona Registered Description This BJ40 was imported into Arizona in 2008. I flew to Arizona and drove it back to Washington State. Since the motors history in Panama was not known the motor/transmission was swapped out with a 3B/H55F 5 speed transmission with 155,000 miles from a shop that specializes in Landcruisers in Canada. The setup was out of a 60 series. This rig combines a newer 3B with the 5 speed (vs the 4 speed factory transmission) and yet has the desirable spring suspension of the 82. If you are unfamiliar with the 3B motors do a little research. The 3B motors are world renowned for being bulletproof, simple in design, dependable, and known for exceeding 1,000,000 miles. My last 3B motor went almost 700,000 miles before needing a rebuild. I regularly get almost 30 mpg on this rig and have not taken the steps to convert it over to bio diesel or vegetable oil. I picked this rig up in 2009 and I drove it to Washington State where I had the 3B/H55F setup installed into it. After driving it for a few months it has sat because I have been using a work truck to do my heavy commuting back and forth to work. A week or so ago I charged the battery and it fired right up and I have been driving it around on weekends since then. I don't want to decieve anybody and say it doesn't need work. The passenger and drivers side door panels need new clips for the door pad. The instruments need connected, a new speedo cable (I will send it with the rig) needs installed, and minor modifications need completed like modifying the cover plate for the transmission since the new setup has been installed. It runs great and will make a great platform for somebody if they want to do a ground up restoration. It has the typical rust spots of the 40's. Like the rear 1/4 panels, passenger and driver floorboards, etc... With the BJ40 I am sending additional gear like the add-a-leafs, speedo cable, new shackles, and a few other parts as well. I also have available a new MULE Equipment overhead rack if the buyer wants it. The paint is a Panama special I am sure and will need to be repainted after any rust has been repaired. I dont want to misrepresent the rig to anybody. It runs and drives great but will need some rust repair here and there if the owner feels the need. I am selling it with the hope that somebody will get a great platform to build on. I don't want to sell it since the BJ40's and BJ42's are getting so rare and hard to find in the USA in any type of decent shape. I can't imagine what they are going to be selling for in 5 or so years. This would be an easy rig to restore for the right person, or just drive it as is. I have had no problems with it since I have had it and it will no doubt be a great rig for years to come. I am sure there are things I am missing in the description for items that need fixed or replaced, but like I said please ask any questions you have and I will get you pictures or better item descriptions. The great thing about the 40's are that all the parts that could ever be wanted are still available. That's the number one reason why I love Toyotas is the vast array of parts available. Please bid as if you are going to eventually paint it, do some rust repair, or whatever else you want to do. This is not a $25,000 rig and I have priced it as such. Please ask me any questions you have or if you need additional pictures feel free to ask and I will get detailed pictures out to you as soon as I can. On Jul-08-11 at 19:11:20 PDT, seller added the following information: I have got alot of emails from people wanting additional pictures of any rusty areas. I think everyone got additional pictures, but I want to clarify it on the ad. The passenger floorboard has 2 rust spots through it that I can see, the drivers floorboard has a couple as well. The rear drivers side 1/4 panel has some bondo that I can see around the turn signal/rear tire mount, and the same is true on the passenger side 1/4 rear panel. I only see surface rust on the undercarriage. I am not an expert and only can report what I see. Any bidder is urged to check it out in person prior to bidding. If rust is an issue, I would factor the $1500 in for a new steel tub, or whatever the current cost is, or just spring for the aluminum tub if you want a really slick build. Please factor in a new tub if that's an issue. I don't want to misrepresent it in any way to a bidder. For a person who is bidding sight unseen I would bid it as a project, so bid accordingly please. Due to their scarcity and huge amount of aftermarket parts and tins I would look around even Ebay and look at the patch panels and pricing. Thanks
