When Triumph returned to the US motorcycle market in the mid 1990s, the Daytona Super III was the top-of-the-line flagship. Compared to the standard Daytona 900, it delivered 15% more HP through 12-1 compression ratio, redesigned head, ports and camshafts – all thanks to development efforts by Cosworth Engineering of Formula 1 fame. The Super III also offered upgraded 6 piston front brake calipers machined from solid billet using Alcon’s US Indy car racing technology. Cosmetic upgrades included exotic and expensive carbon fiber for front and rear mudguards, instrument panel trim and mufflers. Super III models received special fit-and-finish at the factory, which still looks great even today. Only few hundred were produced for the US market, and they had a retail drive-out cost around $15000 – near Ducati 916 price territory. Most experts regard the Super III as a highly collectible modern classic. This nice motorcycle is original and unmodified except for a replacement windshield and typical maintenance items. The brakes, lights, clutch, engine, starter, transmission, chain, sprockets, tires, carburetors etc. are in good shape ready to ride. The bike is in nice cosmetic condition except for minor scuffs, dings and chips from the road miles, a couple small cracks in the replacement shield’s bolt holes, and the thumb screw for resetting the odometer has disappeared. Look at the photos closely, this bike recently won second place at a British motorcycle concours event - the trophy is included with the bike. These Triumph Daytonas are reliable, roomy, comfortable for 6-foot plus, and easy to maintain, plus I regularly get 40+ MPG, even 50 at steady cruise. Due to Triumph’s modular design, most parts are readily available from a number of sources - except for the unique cosmetic Super III parts which are quite rare. The Triumph Super III is an excellent investment and steadily increasing in value, however I have three kids age 4, 5 and 6 so I need a sound family car more than I need a sporty Grand Touring style motorcycle.
