Vehicle Detail
Thank you for taking a look at my listing. Up for auction is a very well maintained classic Mercedes 280se 6cyl with an original 74,400 miles. Please feel free to email me at BKPeregrina@gmail.com for any urgent questions, or to facilitate picture sharing. Owner History: Imported from Germany (original build card & translation sheet from the MBZ classics center is on hand), this car has seen an approximate 3 owners. It has seen the last 6 years of its life here in sunny central California (away from the ocean), where it has been garage kept and only driven on cool spring and fall days. Prior to that it resided in Colorado and before that, Indiana. Peace of Mind: The car recently went through a pre-buy inspection by Fresno's Mercedes-Benz dealership and I can provided contact with them noting the cars issue-free quality. I have on hand a full photo record of the vehicle - consisting of nearly 100 photos of every angle of the vehicle, every blemish (as outlined in a below section), and undercarriage. I can either email specific photos, or mail you a CD containing the entire catalog for those of you truly interested in purchasing this car. Recognition: While in Colorado, it received 1st place in the 20th Annual Concours d'Elegance for Cerebral Palsy in 2003 as well as 1st place in the MBCA Mile High Section, Class C, in 2003. Originality & Model History: Short of the work outlined in the next section, this car is still very original. With matching numbers across the chassis, the interior, motor and transmission are all original. This is a European model (thus the import noted above) - so it still is equipped with the original European Bosch headlights. From the factory, these models were not Americanized - therefore no AC or power doors/windows were ever installed. It is an entirely untouched base model. The only power window this model featured was a sunroof, which still works and shows no rust or other issues. The only thing that had to change upon import was the speedometer/odometer gauge - so when it was imported in 1969, they were transitioned from KPH to MPH. The car is still equipped with the original MBZ tool kit and fist aid kit - located in the trunk. Work History: The car has seen its fair share of work - most of which would either have to be or should be performed on a car of this age. Below is an account of what has been done: 2005-Current: Current owner. All receipts and invoices are on file for; (April '11) Battery (Feb. '09) Brake pads/shoes, rotors, calipers, shocks/struts, tires, (Mar. '09) All bushings, axle mounts, king pin repair kit, steering bolt kit, wheel bearings, & exhaust support kit. 1999-2004: Previous Owner. No receipts or invoices on file for; - Complete paint job of original MBZ color code 050 (White). Replaced the trunk lid. - Re-working of water drainage points with fiberglass. All 4 corners of the car have been re-worked with fiberglass to prevent rust issues these cars have the potential to see at this age. - Updated stereo system: Includes single disc CD changer/radio deck, front and rear speakers, tweeters, & amplifiers and crossovers mounted to back of trunk. Notable Signs of Wear & Tear: Having gone through the car the last few months there are some things that need to be mentioned to interested parties - most of which are purely cosmetic. - Driver Seat: There is a small tear, about 1' long, located on the bottom cushion towards the backrest of the seat. - Dash: a 1/8" x 1/8" square corner of the woodgrain dash has come off next to the upper left side of the clock. - Oil: Car drops a single drop of oil after use - Start-up: In cold weather, or after sitting for an extended period of time, the car takes a couple seconds to start - but always does start. This has been attributed to nothing more than vehicle age and is in no way associated with a mechanical issue per the Mercedes dealership inspection. - Paint: A fair appraisal of the paint job would be 8/10. As the car is driven, there are signs of it being on the open road, such as the occasional rock chip or minor blemish. FAQ: Q: Do you have any other history of the vehicle or previous owners? A: No, all I know has been provided in this auction Q: Can my mechanic inspect the vehicle? A: Yes, if he wants to make a trip to Fresno. I will not be driving the vehicle out of town for any inspection. Q: Can AC be installed in this vehicle? A: Yes, but not by my hand. I've done a lot of research on this matter as it's very prevalent to those wishing to drive the car in summer months here in CA. It can be done, but it is costly - ranging from $1800-$3000 depending on how 'original' you want your AC system to be. Q: Can the original Europa stereo be installed? A: Yes, but it would need to be purchased. I've contacted a company that specializes in the restoration of these units and a complete system can be had for about $1200, plus labor. I can supply model numbers, pricing and contact information to interested parties. Q: Can you ship internationally? A: I can assist in getting a car to port in that I can have the car at certain places at certain times. As for getting freight quotes or arranging any handling of the vehicle - I will not do. They buyer will have to arrange all details in the shipment of the vehicle. On Jun-09-11 at 14:17:58 PDT, seller added the following information:
