Vehicle Detail
1957 Chevrolet Corvette up for bid. Early production model (#599) built on Nov. 1st, 1956. Car has a 1958 - 283ci block with a wide ratio 4 speed and 3.36 posi rear with 169,500 miles. Engine has a mild 260 Crane cam, roller rockers, high comp heads, Offenhauser tripower with Rochester carbs, Pertronics ignition and rare 9 fin valve covers. Never raced. Hard top with original Ventian red waffle pattern. White soft top installed about 5 years ago. Interior is red and seats, rugs and door panels replaced several years ago. Tonneau cover which has shrunk up a bit so all snaps do not fit anymore but keeps the dust out. All gauges work including Tach Radiator and heater core reconditioned and heater works. Kingpins replaced. Light switch, heater motor, heater thermostat replaced Car was originally Ventian Red but now is flat black primer. Have original 3 speed trans with linkage, and a single 4 barrel manifold and Carter carb if wanted Have original AM radio (doesn't work) AM/FM/Cassette in car. Dash was not cut. Have Service manual, Body Parts Manual, Assembly Manual and User manual. Two of the hubcaps are 57, other two are 59. Rear frame crossmember replaced about 5 years ago. All chrome, side trim and emblems are there. Body has not been cut or altered in any way. The car is listed on Internet in Corvette C1 Registry under 57S100599. The Bad: Trans will slip out of 3rd gear when backing off on the gas. I just hold the shifter in gear when coasting. Steering box needs new seals Tail light, door handles and grill are pitted - see pictures Small crack in fiberglass under trunk lid - see picture Its not a show car, always used as a driver I'm selling because as I get older its getting hardere to get in and out. I've had the car for 47 years now.
