Vehicle Detail

For sale is my 1995 C2500 GMC Suburban with 6.5 liter turbo diesel and automatic overdrive transmission (this Suburban is ¾ ton, 2-wheel). Please click here for over 100 detailed photographs of this Suburban. This Suburban has a clear Wisconsin title. I bought this Suburban in September of 2002 in Florida when it had 117, 457 miles and it’s been a very reliable truck; the odometer has never been replaced and is accurately showing the miles on the truck. It gets about 18-20 miles per gallon of diesel fuel when driven on the highway at 60 miles per hour; it gets about 11-14 miles per gallon in the city, depending on how you drive. The factory cruise control works completely as designed. Complete towing package including class IV hitch, combination seven-way/four-way trailer receptacle and Prodigy electronic brake controller. I have never pulled a trailer heavier than 2000 pounds in overdrive and I have done a complete T-tech transmission fluid exchange and transmission filter change every 30,000 miles since I’ve owned the truck. The transmission shifts very nicely and works completely as designed. I have spent over $2,000 in the last several years to maintain the AC system, because I despise sweating my ars off in a hot vehicle; the front and rear AC work exceptionally well. The Michelin LTX M&S radial tires have 10-25k miles left in them, depending on how you maintain and drive your vehicles (I had four-wheel alignment and tires balanced every 5k miles and maintain air pressure at 80 psi). This has been a very reliable and fuel efficient truck for me, but it’s time to let her go because I’m no longer willing to stick money into it. Other than the drivability problems noted below, this Suburban runs beautifully and drives down the road just great. With 4:10 rear axle ratio this diesel Suburban is a towing animal. It seats a total of eight people and cargo quite comfortably. The AC works extremely well and keeps the entire inside of the truck very cool. The heater also works very well. I’ve spent lots of money maintaining this Suburban and have the receipts to document all stated repairs and maintenance. I believe that the worst-case cost for injector pump and brake repair would be $1,500; this Suburban, properly maintained, has lots of miles left in it. This Suburban’s cooling system has been updated to the late model 1997 and later diesel Suburban; the original cooling system could not handle the required heat exchange when towing and would overheat routinely resulting in cracked heads. I replaced all of the lights; headlights are halogen and the balance of the lights are LED. The camouflage paint is beginning to peel in a few places showing surface rust or primer; I’d rough up those areas, prime, and spray on some quality flat black paint. This Suburban has two drivability problems at the moment. First, the brake pedal is soft and slowly goes all the way to the floor when held; the truck stops, but it’s not safe to drive it the way it is. Second, the truck’s motor shuts off intermittently and it’s unpredictable, although it only seems to happen when the truck is at operating temperature. In an attempt to remedy this problem I’ve rebuilt (re-sealed) the fuel filter housing and replaced the electric fuel pump, Oil Pressure Switch, and electric fuel cut-off solenoid, so those things can be ruled out. I replaced the Pump Mounted Driver (PMD) with a new PMD and cooling kit from SS Diesel Supply in the summer of 2006. When the PMD failed the symptom was the truck jerking radically and then finally just dying; when it sat for an hour or so it would start up and drive a short distance again. When I replaced the PMD the truck ran perfect and has for the last 40,000 miles. The symptoms are different this time – the trucks runs perfect, but then all of the sudden just dies unpredictably. It doesn’t jerk, the motor just cuts out and you roll to a stop. After letting it sit for 10 to 20 minutes it will start again and drive for 3-5 minutes and then cut out again. The problem could be that the PMD has again failed or the injector pump might finally need to be replaced; I believe that the original injector pump is on this truck. There are no dash warning lights that come on, but I have not taken the truck into a repair facility to have the brake and motor problems assessed. I am selling this truck as is for a very reasonable price so that the new owner can assess these problems and make the needed repairs. I am not willing to drive this truck to a repair facility to have the problems assessed as it will likely die along the way and I’ll need to be towed; I bought a 2006 Ford diesel van, because I just don’t have the time to deal with the Suburban anymore. Here are other items that are not working or need adjustment or lubrication: - the front hood latch needs to be tapped several times for the hood to open - the rear AC switch above the middle row seat does not work (you simply control the rear AC from the front rear AC switch) - the electrical plug on the AC compressor needs to be replaced (it’s currently wedged in place with paper, and has been for 30,000 miles) - the driver’s door window switch works only intermittently - the knob on the inside hood release latch is broken - the rear left barn door needs to be lifted just a little while opening - the windshield washer fluid lines need to be replaced (they’re leaking) - the electric door latch on the rear barn door doesn’t work (need to lock/unlock with key) - the fuel gauge does not work (I replaced the in-tank fuel sending unit about two years ago and that did not solve the problem. I simply use the trip odometer to determine when to refuel) - small fuel leak coming from top of fuel tank when fuel tank is topped off Listed below are repairs that were made and associated mileage: Muffler and tailpipe 217,850 Rear differential pinion seal 217,700 New Spicer axle u-joints 217,700 Resealed fuel filter base 214,130 Harmonic balancer (both) 214,000 Oil Pressure Switch 213,979 Accessory drive belt 213,979 Accessory relay switch 213,979 Electric fuel pump 213,979 Fuel filter 213,979 Electric fuel shut-off solenoid 213,979 In-tank fuel sending unit 205,500 Batteries, both (Jan 2009, Walmart MAXX-78N) 200,000 Radiator, motor coolant hoses, and coolant 198,160 AC compressor Hi Pressure Switch 190,487 Rear AC refrigerant lines (both, front to back) 190,000 Motor oil cooler lines (both) 189,700 Hydrovac brake booster 187,000 Alternator 183,250 Cooling upgrade kit (dual thermostat housing, fan clutch, high output water pump, and hoses) 172, 848 AC compressor 172, 848 Power steering gear box 141,500 Front brake rotors, calipers, pads, bearing, and seals 140,000 Shock absorbers (all four) 139,000 Michelin LTX M&S P245/75R16 radial tires 136,988 Rear brake shoes 130,435 Multifunction turn signal switch 130,435 Ziebart used car rust protection 119,829 Please feel free to ask questions, but please do so by emailing me directly at (joe@armytruckparts.com), because I am routinely away from regular Internet service and I can NOT respond to your questions through the eBay system from my Blackberry, which is my lifeline to the outside world.
