Vehicle Detail
Award winning 1951 Mercury custom for sale. Chopped, nosed, frenched, shaved, this car has it all including a removable top. This custom Merc was built in 1989 by Mercury John in Riverside California and has been on the road ever since. It has a lift off Carson style top built by the late Dick Dean. This Merc is riding on it's stock frame with Chevrolet running gear; 350 V8 with a turbo 350 automatic transmission and 10 bolt Chevy rear end. Lowered the old fashion way with lowered coils and re-arched leaf springs in the rear. There are no airbags or lowering blocks. Car rides great with Coker radial wide whites. It has Plymouth bumpers, 54' Chevy grill and full custom bodywork. This is an extremely reliable custom that has been driven to all the major events on the west coast over the past 22 years; Paso, Hot August Nights, Billetproof, GoodGuys, etc. It has been in many magazine shots and even a "t-shirt" car for shows in Lake Havasu, Palm Springs and HAN. Car was featured in the main arena at the 1991 Oakland Roadster show and won a class award as well. The paint would be described as a great "20 footer" and is beginning to show its age after 22 years on the road. It also needs new gauges, they've all failed at one point or another over the years. There are minor chips and dings as to be expected on a car this age and a few minor rust bubbles have appeared in the usual places. This is a great beach, parade and wedding car as well as a fantastic cruiser with room for the entire family. It also retains the stock "suicide" doors in the rear that 49'-51' Mercs were known for. This car is definitely a "roadster"; there are no windows or provisions for them. Older owner looking to "thin the herd" and move on to other projects. We can assist the buyer with shipping arrangements but all costs involved are the responsibility of the buyer. I wouldn't hesitate driving this car across country, it's that reliable. Payment in full due 3 days after close of auction. Thanks and good luck!
